Does anyone know if the Fairmount of Norristown fire department is still in service? From my understanding the Norris and the humane have merged into the existing Montgomery as the paid staff and the Hancock is still in service to my understanding is all volley and houses fire police. I saw their outdated ladder and rescue truck are up for sale, that would leave only the marine unit being left at the Fairmount. I know there is a new tiller ladder truck being built. Will any of the stations be able to house a tiller? Will rescue services be summoned by mutual aid?

Quote from this article from this past November discussing possible consolidation: “These old fire houses were designed for horses and buggies not for 70-and-80,000 pound fire trucks,” So I'd take that as a 'no'.

Also from Norristown Fire Department's Facebook page (not Fairmount, but Norristown Hose)

Seeing how the two main apparatus from the Fairmount are for sale, I will believe that only water rescue operations are going to be ran out of there for the time being. I heard a few times the paid guys saying over the radio they were going to 27-D to get the marine unit. There was never any paid staffing for the "West end" but the Fairmount and Hancock use to staff with volleys and with sterigere st being closed I find it hard to believe there is no delay to get to the west end of the borough. To get to the point the A,C,D stations seem to no longer exist, I assume the B station will become the A station and who knows the standing with the E station. I would assume a addition will be needed to house the tiller unless there's a new station that is in the works. I wonder if they will change tones for 158.355 seeing how most of it now is probably digital. Sad to see volunteering is a thing of the past.
