north to south

i have question,, my radio is programmed for northern activity which reachs 40 miles. would i be able to accomplish the distance if programmed for south activity?

I'm afraid your question makes absolutely no sense at all. Could you rephrase it?

ok.. if your antenna is the center of a compass and you are receiving signals north of your center location. in theory,. would your antenna pick up the same distance south of your center point,.

everything created equal the reception would be the same distance in any direction with perfectly omnidirectional antenna but with buildings hills and trees it varies. and if a omni is side mounted on a mast or a tower that might affect it some.

Unless there is something blocking the path, you should.

Or unless it's a directional antenna, or something about how/where it's mounted MAKES it directional. But he did spell out omni in his initial post.
