OK, thanks for the info on my RS Pro 106, now for the next problem, i have never did ANY Firmware up date & or software programing to a scanner because i have all ways did all by manually programing & i'm afraid that if i did this to my scanner i may burn it up, so what do i do now ?
Did you use the firmware updater and is the scanner working now? If you use the updater, it cannot to any kind of damage to the scanner. Have you ever used the programming cable? If not, you will need to install a driver for it. Do you have the original Radio Shack cable?

The only cables i have is the PC cord & the cloning cable & the scanner has no slot on the radio for any other cable !

Do you have the cable that plugs into a USB port on your computer and the PC/IF jack on the scanner for programming your scanner? If so, what is the manufacturer and model number of the cable? Is it a Radio Shack 20-546 cable? That cable has a USB plug on one end and a 1/8" stereo mini plug on the other. A cloning cable for copying one scanner to another has a 1/8" stereo mini plug on both ends for plugging into the PC/IF jacks on both scanners.

Check if one of your neighbors in Leavenworth has a Radio Shack or other compatible cable and have them do the firmware update for you. I'm sure you have others with scanners in your area. It would certainly be worth a try to get the scanner working again. The scanner is in the firmware upgrade mode and is waiting for someone to run the CPUUpdater file I attached.

Or just buy the cable for $20 on eBay to try to get your $200 scanner going again.

That's what I would do. I'm reasonably certain the scanner is going to work after running the updater. The OP could also click on Report and request that the thread be moved to the Kansas forum where his neighbors will see it and possibly help him out.

I use the 20-546 cable on both Windows 10 & 11 computers with no problems. You need to install the driver for the cable if you haven't done so. The easiest way is to download and install ARC500 Basic programming software for the free trial period. PRO-106 Go to the Scanner tab and click on Install USB Driver. The driver works with my cables. Once you get the scanner working, you can take a look at the software. It is so much faster and easier using software than programming manually using the scanner menus. For example: You do not need to enter a 2-digit code for each character of alpha tags. You can type the tags in using your computer keyboard. You will also be able to see everything at a glance rather than viewing objects one at a time buried in menus. There is far less chance of making an error. Being a premium subscriber, you will be able to download programming directly from the database. ARC500 Basic is what I use to program my PRO-106 and PRO-197. If you like the software, you can purchase the key to keep using it after the free trial period. PSREdit500 is also excellent software that will work with your scanner and has a free trial period also. You can download and install both to see which one you like better.

That cable works fine with Windows 10.
You may need to download the driver which is very simple to do.
