Hello everyone, I am very new to this scanner/trunked radio thing and I am trying my hardest to try and figure my scanner out but I admit defeat and im reaching out for help. I have the WS1040 and I am trying to manually download frequencies (Fire, Police, EMS) etc in my area (York, SC) but I can't seem to get anything to come in. I have erased everything a d started over 10 times already. If and when I do get it to start scanning, ( I think it's scanning) it only shows a "G" at the top of the screen. MY manual says that means its in Global mode. Is that normal? Most of the time when I enter a frequency or a talkgroup though and hit scan, I will get a "nothing enabled " message. Im not sure what im doing wrong. I apologize if I sound like im all over the place here, Im just frustrated and lost. Any advice is appreciated. Thank you.

Conventional frequencies and talkgroups must be assigned to a scan list and the scan list must be enabled.

when I assign it to a scan list, save all my information etc, I hit scan........sometimes it will say right away nothing enabled.....other times I've had it start scanning and then I will hit #1 for scan list 1 Or #2 for scan list 2 it will then say nothing enabled. Am I doing something wrong there?

Also, when I am on the page looking at the frequencies, talkgroup Id's etc, how do I know if the if its a P25 auto or P25 manual system? Do I only enter the frequencies that are in red and blue or the ones in black too? I apologize for all the questions.

If a P25 trunked system, use P25 Auto. The control channel will load the trunking tables for a trunked system to function. It is only necessary to enter the red control channel and blue alternate frequencies. All of the frequency information is carried on the control channel. No need to apologize. We are here to answer your questions. I was confused also when I first started programming scanners many years ago. Which systems and agencies are you trying to monitor? Is this the system? I appreciate your help. Yes, that is the system that I would like to monitor. I obviously would like to monitor some other areas as well but after I get the hang of using this thing first lol. Again I appreciate the feedback/help.

It is far faster and easier to use programming software. I use Butel ARC500 Basic. If you would like, I can put together a file for you for York County so you can see how it is done. Let me know if you would like that. Once the file is done, I can attach it here for you to program your scanner. I will let you know when the file is done so you can download the software for the free trial period and use it to program your scanner. If you like the software, you can purchase the key.
