I received my SDS100 today and updated the Firmware and Database. I used Sentinal Software to build my Favorites list, and uploaded it to the scanner. I'm not getting anything on the scanner. I am in St. Clair County Illinois, and I am trying to get St. Clair County Police (and some of the municipal PDs in the area), Local Fire and Local EMS. I know that lot of it is on Starcom21 (both P1 and P2), but I cannot get anything. Help?

How many bars of signal are you getting? DATA link? Is the favorites list set to monitor? All applicable service types turned on for the talkgroups you want to hear? Did you set quick keys & are they turned on? Be sure to only monitor the closest site to you, the more sites you scan at a time you'll be bound to miss traffic

One thing when you unbox the radio is that all service types are not enabled, can never figure out why it is that way by default but, simply go in and enable all Service Groups and let us know if that helps.

Besides the service types already mentioned, did you update your location in Sentinel before writing your list to the scanner? If you did not, and the list you created is set to use location control, you will not hear any radio calls. Edit your Favorites list in the scanner, via the menu. If location control is enabled, turn it off & see if you now hear radio calls.

The most common problems are the service types are not enabled and Download and Monitor are not both set to On for the favorites list in the profile editor when you write the favorites list to the scanner. Download sends the favorites list to the scanner. Monitor enables it to scan. Please attach your favorites list file so that we can take a look at it. Go to the File tab in Sentinel and click on Export to hpe file (Favorites List}. You will need to zip the exported file to be able to attach it. Click to Attach files and open the zipped file.
And looking for "Nothing to Scan" will give you a number of things to check and try.

This may sound really dumb.... but do you have an antenna connected? Also, the stock telescopic antenna may or may not be sufficient indoors. It may be possible an outdoor antenna is needed. Again, as whiskey asked, do you see any signal bars?

Check your squelch setting. It should be at 2.
That's the most ridiculous thing ever. That's like buying a car at the dealer and they only hook up half the spark plugs.
Well if they enabled every service type right out of the box then more threads would get started on this forum from people complaining that they entered their zip code (as opposed to programming FLs) and are only getting taxi cab or school bus chatter, which most folks aren't slightly interested in. It does make sense to me to only enable what is most commonly monitored: EMS Dispatch, Fire Dispatch, Law Dispatch, Custom 1, and Multi-Dispatch as Uniden does and switch on anything else as needed

I miss a good smorgasbord, some of the vital transmissions in my area are not necessarily mislabeled but labeled in a peculiar way.
I would also want to start with emergency Ops, EMS talk, EMS Tac, fire tac, fire talk, Hospital, interop, law tac, law talk, multi tac... yeah just give me the whole menu, I can always turn the oil delivery trucks off easily enough😀.

Since it is such a common problem with new users having service types disabled, it would make more sense to have them all enabled when Sentinel is first installed and then eliminate the ones you do not want.
Actually, if you RTFM then you know what service types are turned on out of the box.
And yes, I know, reading instructions is so yesterday now.
