I have just moved to Llanfair Caereinion in mid Wales and switched on my hand held thinking at some point I would hear a local station calling, however not heard a peep. On 145.500 calling channel.
Now I did not expect a lot of activity, but thought there would be some.
I know local railway uses a repeater but no idea of frequency, the guy who showed me their bank of radios said they were side band which it seems he meant used a repeater. So seemed no point asking what they were tuned to. Anybody any idea of frequency used?
I note it says "Over the weekend of 17th-18th August ham radio enthusiasts will be setting up their radio station at Llanfair Caereinion station. Using the special call signal GB4 WLR, they will be broadcasting to the world. " so I may find out more then, I have rarely used HF in UK, nearly all 2 meter, with a little 70 cm thought I would hear some one then I could ask about any local clubs.
Well I got a CQ 2 meter and yes it seems active people in the area, however the freq shown RSGB for repeaters it seems wrong, however did not write down what I was told so still not monitoring the repeaters.
