If you choose to download all the towers for the province then yes, you will receive transmissions across the province as you travel. Remember tho, You wont hear say "North 1" in Sydney unless there is a truck in Sydney that is on North 1.

Program the scanner for everything you want to listen to.

Remember this is a new system. We are still learning more talkgroups every day.

There's a bit of confusion about the provincial fire ops talkgroup assignments.. is anyone able to confirm whether ops 1-14 belong to the southern or western region, and same with 15-28. At the moment I have 1-14 as south and 15-28 as west, but that may not be correct.
We may also just have to wait until more VFDs migrate over..

I can confirm that

1-14 is South
15-28 is West
29-42 is North
43-56 is East

What is in question is the actual TG IDs. In the Pilot radios handed out this summer, they had the Western Ops TGs in them but now someone is reporting the Southern Ops TG IDs as the same ones previously identified as West this past summer. We need to determine if there was a change or if someone submitted the wrong info.

I am in the process of trying to reprogram my scanner for the new system and I definitely need some direction in doing this. When I click on add a new system do I want P25 Standard or P25 One Freq Trunk? I am assuming that I would use the Blomidon tower since that is what I used in the past. Is that what I should be doing??

What type of scanner?

P25 Standard is going to be what you want. Its not a one freq truck system. That tower alone has a control channel, an alternate control channel and prob 2 or 3 other freqs.

If your using software to do it, it likely has an option to sign into RadioRefference with your credentials. That will help you download everything you need

You would need a premium RR subscription to use download from the database using software.

P25 standard, and enter the primary and alternate (red and blue in the database) control channels for the site(s) you want. Not sure where you're located at, but the TMR2 has a new site in New Minas that the old TMR didn't have, that may also be close to you.

I have a Uniden BCD996XT. I have been using FreeScan to do my programming. If that program is capable of signing into RadioReference site then I'm not familiar with how that is done. What I have done in the past is copy the info from the RadioReference site and then imported it. Previously when I had things set up I have only used the following for the Blomidon frequencies 771.85625c 772.10625a Should I be adding more?

Can I use both Blomidon & New Minas or should I just use the closest one, which would be New Minas

You can use any many sites as you want. Depends on where you will go with your scanner. If its going to stay at your house and not go mobile, then you can just use your local towers which would be Blomidon and New Minas. . There is a tower in Morristown aswell.

you def want to use P25 Standard with Freescan.

If your scanner is set up for Control Channel mode only then you will only need to enter in the Red and Blue freq like Hfx Chris said.

Once your ready to enter in TalkGroups you can find those on the Database aswell. its still a work in progress as we learn new TG IDs every day as services come online.

If you're entering more than one site/tower, you have to program them as more than one site, under the same system in Freescan. You can't put the frequencies for multiple towers into the same site in Freecsan otherwise it will only scan the first one it comes across in the frequency list. Add a second site by clicking the add site button at the top, and then put in the frequencies for the second tower.
If you assign both sites the same system quick keys, then it'll automagically enable and disable both sites when you push that quick key.

Hope that makes sense. Also happy new year everyone!

So if i'm understanding correctly, if I add say Blomidon, New Minas & Morristown then I would assign them all the same quick key #. Is that right?

Thanks for all the help in answering my questions and having patients with my limited knowledge when it comes to the programming :)

I use FreeScan and thats how I have mine set up. I have the TMR 2 system set up as a system and I put every control channel and alt control channel for the entire province in as one SITE. That way as I travel the province, my scanner will continuously stop on the strongest control channel and as I move, it will lose signal and then grab the next strongest signal which "should" be the tower closest to me. This is the closest I can get to having seemless roaming like an actual TMR radio. However, like hfxChris said above, it will stop on the next freq it comes across which isnt always the one I want. I have to sometimes manually lock out a freq if I know its not the tower I want. It only takes a second to do that tho. Im OCD and thats how I like to have it set up, rather then setting each tower a new quick key.

If you have a scanner that you dont plan on taking out of your house, then all your should have to enter is the Control Channel and Alt control channel closest to you. If you dont plan on moving away from that tower, then you dont even need to program in the other two near you to be honest.

Got ya. I will not be roaming with mine so I think I will take out the Blomidon & Morristown sites and leave the New Minas site since it is the closest. Thanks

Quoted from: RCMP Response to the MacNeil Report (Independent Review - Moncton Shooting - June 4, 2014)

Q: A system be developed, both radio and data, that would allow for communication between RCMP members from the Maritime Divisions, when required to work outside of their home jurisdiction.

A: A radio system upgrade and replacement providing complete radio interoperability in “H”, “J” and “L” Divisions (Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island) is to be completed.

Target Date: Winter 2017

Looks like MRCI is born again, if not something very similar. No official announcement from PEI yet.

In a statement released by Cape Breton Regional Police Chief Peter McIsaac, the force will begin training on the TMR2 system next week and its hopes are to have full implementation by September..
Article can be viewed here:
Cape Breton Regional Police to launch fully encrypted digital radio system - Local - Cape Breton Post

September? Didn't I read somewhere migration of the TMR2 (including dispatch equipment) is to be completed by June 1, or was Cape Breton Police late to jump on the bandwagon?
