thanks in advance you guys have been a huge help. I am using pro95
I have the primary frequenciey in bank 00; police TG 01; fire/police common 02;fire talkgroup 03 and service TG 04. when in scan mode I only get the primary frequencies w/o talkgroups. Im sure Im missing something I would like to be able to chose which talk group I want to listen to When I set the banks to closed and try to scan no frequencies are acquired.
I recall reading something here about being able to turn off or on talkgroups when in closed. It seems like all banks are turned off in closed mode

Page 65 in Owners Manual refers.

PGM
TRUNK FUNC + 1 Toggles sub-bank indicated on line 1.
Pressing TRUNK again selects next sub-bank for consideration.

Another Newbie...but really new!

Hey everyone,
Just got the Pro 95. I'm so new to scanners that I don't even know if it is working right.

I just keep it on the police/fire 800 mhz bank because that is what I enjoy most. But I am having difficulty following things. I may get bits and pieces of transmissions...or the scanner shows the info for a transmission and all I get is a click and hear nothing else. Is that normal?

Thanks in advance for your patience and kindness.

Welcome to the forum Vince,

Run the following two checks to insure your 800 bank is set correctly.

!. Press PGM TRUNK. Line 3 on the display should have MOT: and an ID number. If not MOT then press MODE until MOT is present.
2. Press Manual. Using the up/down buttons, navigate through each 800 freq and verify that MO is in upper right corner of the display. If any are not then, Press MODE until it indicates MO.

BTW, if your 800 bank is EDACS, replace MOT and MO with ED in both above tests.

Did the checks

Frank, thank you for your welcome and your help.

I did the test. I think I completed it without messing anything up (I had radio shack program it for my area and was afraid to touch anything for fear of not getting it back).

I don't understand your last comment re: edacs. I did go to my manual but it might as well be written in a different language as it assumes the read knows at least a little about it.

On a side note, the person who helped me at radio shack just made it so I could monitor the 800 req. since he is familiar with the area. After I made the changes you suggested, I get three beeps after every transmision I hear. Is that correct or is there something I should change back? I guess my bottom line question is how do I know I have everything the way it should be so I could not change anything and just sit back and listen

Thanks again Frank, I really appreciate your patience.

Vince

ps: in addition to the 5 beeps, I may just get them without hearing a transmision...normal?

If you're hearing beeps, you must have changed the trunking system to Motorola per my test. Sorry for assuming your system was Motorola.

My test were for the most common trunking system which is MO=Motorola, but beeps are indication of an EDACS system programmed incorrectly, hence my
BTW, if your 800 bank is EDACS, replace MOT and MO with ED in both above tests.
.

Your forum name begins with Naples, I've been in two different Naples on this Globe--Italy and Florida--the latter has an EDACS trunking system.

If you live in the Naples FL, go back through test 1 and 2 in my previous and replace MOT in step 1 with ED using the MODE button. Then in test 2 replace MO (upper right) with ED, again using the MODE while stepping through each 800 freq with the up/down buttons.

Your Radio Shack person likely had it correct and my assumption the system was Motorola was incorrect.

If you are not in Collier County, then let me know what city/county you are in.

EDACS moves very fast. After reprogramming to EDACS, you can press and hold TRUNK for 2 seconds during a transmission. This will hold on that talkgroup until conclusion of both sides of the conversation. When finished, press SCAN.

One more point Naples_Newbie.

You first freq for the Collier County system (Naples site) should be in the 01 channel for the bank, not 00 channel. and the rest should be in this order.
01 856.43750*
02 856.48750
03 856.93750
04 856.96250
05 857.48750
06 857.96250
07 858.93750
08 858.96250
09 859.43750
10 859.48750
11 859.76250
12 860.43750
13 860.48750
14 860.76250
15 860.96250

go and get the win95 software from Don

http://www.starrsoft.com/

its free to use and the onlything you need is a cable to connect it from the scanner to a computer

this way its much easier to set up then by hand

Will make changes

Thanks Frank! Okay, I will make the changes you said.

Also, I checked and you are correct again, where it says M400 in the upper left hand corner, I have 856.43750 So does that mean I have to change them all? (scuze me if I curse  )

What should be in the first spot, nothing? Why?

Yes, leave the first one blank.

That's why it's called an LCN (Logical Channel Number) The controller data stream tells the radio which channel to tune to and the Edacs system channels start with 1.

Yes, that was your original problem, 856.43750 should be in 401 and the rest of the list needs to move down.

If you were set up with Win95 as sfdf suggested, the changes would be very easy. Simply highlight the freqs in the program, click on Move Down, save and load to the scanner. Takes about a minute or so.

Make sure you have bank 4 set back to ED as in Test 1. Ignore Test 2 at this time.

Press WX, write down the freq number of the weather station you hear best. I'll have you program it into channel 400 and replace the 856.4375 freq in that spot.
To change the freqs manually,
1. Press MAN then key in 400 then MAN again.
2. Press PGM and key in the 7 digits of the WX freq which you wrote down.
3. Press Mode until FM is in the upper right corner.
4. Press ENTER
5. Press L/Out
6. Press PGM, the upper left should read P401, key in 856.4375. Verify ED is in upper right corner. If not use MODE button to change.
7. Press ENTER

Repeat step 6 and 7 until all freqs are entered.

When complete, Press WX, if the displayed freq is the one which you wrote down, press FUNC + WX. This sets your scanner to the Alert Tone Mode when the tone is broadcast by the National Weather Service. For this feature to function after you have it setup, you will need to turn PRI on prior to the tone broadcast.

Thus, if you think you may be getting bad weather, press PRI during scanning, Priority On will be temp displayed on line 4 and your scanner will sound the alert tones for several seconds then lock onto the Locked Out freq in channel 400 and give you the details. The only time this feature will interfere with normal scanning is if the tones are broadcast with PRI on. Channel 400 otherwise remains locked out.

I left a step out of the WX PRI feature. Sorry :)

Press MAN 400 MAN
Press FUNC + PRI (Pri Channel flashes 2 times on the bottom line of display)

This changes default PRI channel from 000 to 400 so that the WX Alert will go to the correct channel.

Details are on pages 39 and 47.

Edit: This Programming shortcut at RRWiki may be useful for manually programming the scanner.

Moved wx to 400...

Frank,thanks again!
I began to replace the frequencies with the list/order you had given me above. When it was programmed at the store, it put frequencies in different spots. When I try to put one in that is duplicated in other spots, it won't let me. So this LCN depends on the order they are in?

Don't worry about the same freq in another bank. It is not preventing you from duplicated freqs, its just advising that the freq is in another channel (and another bank). Press ENTER again and the freq will be in the correct order. You should end up with the 15 freqs listed and in bank 4 and each having ED in the upper right corner of display.

You called it!!

Thanks Frank! I'm getting so many more clear signals! Thank you very very much for your help. So, I just leave the weather in the 00 spot, right?

Also, I have a print out from what was programmed at RS and it seems that I have various 800 requencies in bank 4 all the way up to chn 34. Should I just leave them alone?

Seems there is a lot of non- police and fire chat.

Great, the 95 should track your system well. It and a 2067 and a 92 tracked Collier nearly three years ago when we visited the area. And yes on channel 00, but locked out and set the Alert as I described in a previous post.

If any of them are duplicates of the Trunking freqs, then you may get annoying beeps on them if the scanner stops on them. If so, I'd clear them in accordance with the note on the bottom of page 31. Some of them may be from the Lee Motorola system. Compare these Lee County freqs with the extras in your bank

This page 31 is in the Pro-96 Manual. The procedure is the same for both scanners. To clear a programmed freq, Press FUNC + CLR while on the freq. Sorry :!:

hey Fmon,

I tried your WX idea with my new pro-95 and something isn't right..

I'm using bank 0 with my EDACS...

I put 162.40000 on 00 which is FM and locked out. When i go to WX and then do F+WX it puts the scanner in in standby mode. it shows DIG WX STBY Cancel: F+WX. I can't do anything to get back into the scanner except by pressing F+WX again...

Some how the instructions you listed are missing something, or the PRO95 won't allow you to leave WX loaded in a memory channel into alert standby mode. Any ideas?

F + WX is for waiting in standby as you suggest above.

You want it scanning and of course channel 000 is locked out. When you think foul weather is apparent, press PRI, then if an alert tone is broadcast by NOAA the PRI will break squelch on the tone, sound the 1050 hz tone and display one of the three Alarms (Warning. Watch Alert). After several minutes, the tone will mute and the freq in priority will transmit normal but will likely broadcast details of the alert. To test, set the scanner during scan on PRI on Wed morning around 11 to noon, you should be able to trip the tone during test. If any communication is in progress, it'll cut them off and sound the tone.

Of course, the scanner must be in range of the tone, not the WX freq. In otherwords, if the scanner does not pick up the Tone, you may be out of range to use this feature.

I had a 92, 2067, 95 and 96 all blasting one Wed morning and all were on duckies. 8) Sold the Pro-95 in Oct 03.

You can't do this with Unidens.
