With the adoption of SAME technology for activating weather alert radios, does NWS still transmit the tone alert (1050hz for 8 seconds) for severe weather alerts?

If so, does anyone utilize a tone/voice pager (such as a minitor) set to the NWS frequency and the 1050hz tone to receive weather alerts in a more portable fashion? Just curious. I know theoretically it should work but I wasn't sure if it was common practice, or if NWS still transmits that tone.

It's still there, and likely will be for a while.

Small Portable NOAA Radio

I bought a couple small Midland radios that are no bigger than a pager and receive the 1050hz tone on all 7 weather channels. These were on clearance at a local store for
$ 14.00. Works well for traveling and staying in hotels without having to program a new location each time. Channel selection is automatic.

Sensitivity is somewhat limited, but it does usually pickup the closest NOAA channel to your location.
