• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Is the NX-300 P25 upgradable? I’m hearing yes and no, but according to the brochure on Keenwoods site it is

Just FYI I'm in the price sheet right now and I don't find that option either for mobiles or Portables right now. The last good price I can find for nx700/800 mobile upgrade was $792 list in January of 2017. Way better off finding a p25 portable radio to dedicate. EFM may have other info though.

I haven't seen them offer that option for the NX-x00's in a few years.
You might want to contact Kenwood directly and ask them.

When they did offer it, it was in the $700-$800 price range.

Yep, as Dave said….

I found it under the NX-700/800:

KWD-P25C P25 Flash Upgrade, NX-200/300/700/800 Must Order L-1663
Note: KWD-P25C will be Kenwood factory installed only (units must be returned for upgrade)
List price as of Jan 2017 was $792.00

Labor Code L-1663 NX-700.800 P25 Conventional Software Upgrade
Must order a KWD-P25C firmware option.
Shown as a "no charge" item.

Dealers can get it significantly cheaper. If you fall under a state contract, you can knock a fair amount off the list price.

Found out portables are no longer getting it, they said nx5300 is the best solution and is not much price difference, actually less by 40 to 60 dollars then trying to push the 300, plus you lose nxdn and it becomes a tk series.

Let's start with this, you dont have everything
Around 1500 or so.

You have a few things just need nx5300, p25, software (wide if your a ham), already have a kpg36 portable cable, already have a ksc32 charger
Around 1190 to 1300 with shipping insured.
( dmr add 45)
(Battery KNB-L3 add 40)

Radio and battery no antenna, just under 800, the p25 is the PITA price.

Keep in mind, the radio can do p25 and dmr, or as it is printed, 2 modes at any time. Wont do all 3.
Ask any of the other guys here that have it it is worth it.

By the way, I sprung for the whole kit and doghouse. Loaded mobile with advanced head, 3 decks and 3 P25, 3 p25 phase 1, 3 p25 phase 2, 3 dmr, 3 FPP, I scrapped my butt off the floor at about the tune of 6900. Not counting my 5300k6 which is loaded too.

Still less than a Motorola apx 7500 mobile at 2 bands... I have 3 on one control head.
