• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Now, I just need Kenwood to fix the MDC DOS "squak" when receiving another MDC signal from another radio. Motorola calls it "dos hold off". It works very well in the Motorola world to hold back the dos squak sound. With Kenwood, you hear every bit of it. I think I mentioned it to you a while back and I think you said you submitted it to Kenwood for consideration in the next firmware update to be fixed.

Correct. Some of the agencies I listen and talk to use pre and others use post. The pre is taken care of; it is the post that is driving me nuts. Thanks for submitting that.

Thanks for the suggestions re the auto reset time. I have made them 0 seconds on all modes within the KPG-D1 however this has made no difference to the problem of the ID displaying non stop on the screen following another users transmission. This only happens in DMR, not P25. I haven’t tested this in NXDN.

Any other ideas?

when in DMR mode, the radio displays the UID of the most recent signal until another signal comes in. It will not display the channel name that is being monitored unless the user manually changes zones then back again, or changes channels then back again.

Sounds like incorrect programming in the "Auto Reset" section that is causing that behavior...

On my radio I have the auto reset adjusted to 10 seconds, the user id shows up on the screen for 10 seconds and then disappears and then the current selected channel displays. Check to make sure that you have the "LCD" box checked under "Auto Reset" section of each "format", i.e. DMR, P25, NXDN. The path to each is Format-> Format Information-> Auto Reset->. The multiple check boxes below the auto reset timer go with the auto reset functionality, you can choose individual 'areas' that are affected by the auto timer. i.e. your screen display (LCD), the visual status indicator (LED), your audible alert tone (Alert Tone), or the monitor function (Monitor), or you can choose all of them. But what your looking for as far as the user id disappearing and what your asking about, is LCD. Hope this helps...

Quick question. I currently have a NX5700 but am thinking of getting a NX5800 deck as well. If I make this a single (Basic) head / dual deck setup, will both decks be able to scan at the same time or does the setup only allow the selected deck to scan? I'm eventually going to go the featured head... but that is down the road.

Thank you,
Travis

Both decks will scan at the same time. I have a NX-5700/5800 with the full featured control head and I scan both simultaneously.

ndejohn, since you have the configuration that I have to install can you post what the dip switch settings are for 5FMMMR. I can't find the remote install manual anywhere. Thank you.

Thank you.

Another quick question. I've been looking and cannot find the dimensions of the full feature head. Does someone have that, or could possibly measure it? I'm working on my setup and trying to figure out where I could fit it.

Thank you!

NX-5800 newbie

Good Morning Gents,

I recently decided to upgrade from my TK-5310 to a NX-5800. I got a good deal on a RF deck. But am now on the lookout for a basic head (KCH-19) and all the accessories for a single deck-remote head setup. Anybody have anything laying around for sale?

My states system is P25 Phase 1. Is the P25 license still locked down to getting direct from Kenwood?

I have 5FMMMR so I'm not sure about the standard head. Email Evans KD4EFM. He got back to me VERY quickly with the answer.

Quick question for the group. Does anyone know what would prevent me from writing to the radio? Using the factory cable and I can read it fine but as soon as I open my file the write button is greyed out. Was able to program it fine last time but I'm not sure if something changed or I hit something by accident.
