• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Looking for people experiencing a problem with "Queued" error/message that won't go away.

I'm using NX5400s and have heard from another user on the same system using NX5900s. It's a Harris P25 system. In some situations (in my experience, if the user attempts to key up too quickly after the other party has stopped talking), the radio will error out and say "Queued" on the screen. The "Queued" message disappears when PTT is released, but re-appears (with the accompanying error bonk tone) every time the PTT is pressed again, infinitely, until either the user changes channel or power-cycles the radio. In other words, if you get into a queued state on the radio due to talkgroup being busy, the radio never recovers from this unless you move off-channel or turn the radio off/on.

I've tried looking through the programming end to end and back again, and played with timers of all kinds, but there doesn't seem to be anything that will prompt the radio to try to PTT again - it's like it's waiting for a 'channel clear' message that will never be delivered. I'd like to see this at the very least put on a timer that can be given a reset value of something like 10 seconds, so the user can try to PTT again without much delay.
I'd take a look at the system type vs how the radio is programmed. If the system is Message trunking and the radio is set for PTTID trunking, this can easily occur. To me it sounds like the Busy Reset queue response Timer. What happens if you just wait for 30 seconds? Does the queued message go away? Please take this up with a knowledgable system admin of the Harris system. If you can't get a good answer, ask Kenwood directly.

I am going to say this is a system issue and not the radio. As mentioned, the Harris, and any other type of trunk system, has call queuing. Even the NXDN trunk system i work on, has that also. I would venture to say this is something the system admin has set, and well, not very sure on their own, if it was set correctly timing wise. Defer this to the radio shop or who ever is in charge of the system,

An interesting little mention in a firmware release document yesterday.

There is now an NX-5800H, 100/25 watt 380-470 mobile. RF deck only.

Also, the NX-5000 and NX-3000 now support DMR S-mode trunking. Will allow them to use FB6.

Has anyone else played with the 5600H or other H models?

They're HUGE. They make the 690H look small. I couldn't believe it when I opened the box. They're not radios--they're dumbbells.

I've been out of the loop for a while, what is the latest version of the firmware and programing software for the NX-5800K2? I'm running K 4.00.00 (release 37 I think) firmware and v4.00 of KPG-D1N

For the Kenwood model, it's 3

If you go with the EF Johnson model, it's 4.

I'm sure there's a logical reason for that, but not sure why. The Kenwoods will do analog, DMR, P25, NXDN. But if you go with EFJ, it's analog and P25 only (plus Motorola SmartZone/SmartNet).

Now that Kenwood is offering VHF Low, VHF High, UHF and 700/800, I could see a reason to allow all 4 RF decks. There are good applications for that.

I just ordered a triple-deck single-head configuration for my new fire truck coming in January, and I'm pretty sure I spec'd the basic head (KCH-19). Can someone tell me if the simultaneous receive/display functionality is available with the basic head, or should I be going with a full featured head (KCH-20R) instead?
