• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I am wanting to get a kenwood nx-5700. It’s showing “new” on eBay. How much does it cost to add p25 to this radio one I have purchased it?

These are LIST prices, you should be able to do better by contacting a dealer:
KWD-5100CV License Key for P25 Conventional $575.00
KWD-5101TR License Key for P25 Phase 1 Trunking (requires KWD-5100CV) $520.00
KWD-5102TR License Key for P25 Phase 2 Trunking (requires KWD-5100CV & KWD-5101TR) $400.00
KWD-5103RK License Key for P25 OTAR (requires KWD-5106DT for a Trunking Operation) $700.00
KWD-5105VT License Key for P25 Conventional Voting Scan $120.00
KWD-5106DT License Key for P25 Trunking OTAR / GPS $180.00

You'll need the KPT-300LMC software to add the new features. That's part of the KPG-D1N programming software package.

@kd4efm, Is Kenwood still looking for suggestions?

1.) Voice Announcements:
a.) Room for more files--perhaps use SD Card storage?
b.) Configurable voice announcement priority (choose whether zone/ch overrides receive audio or not--presently does)
c.) PF key or menu option to enable/disable voice announcements instead of permanent value

2.) Channel Information: Hide irrelevant information (ie on analog channels, don't display empty RAN values)

3.) Front Panel Programming: On W-licensed FPU, make a checkbox allowing FPP to set channel bandwidth on the UHF radios (LIKE IT ALREADY DOES ON VHF)

4.) Low priority--more 2-tone encode and decode options. Why are we still limited to decoding 4 sets and encoding 32?

When using a NX-5700 as a control station via a tone remote would it be better to use the DB-25 connection or use the KTC-72 Accessory Cable to interface the radio to GAI-Tronics ITA2000A tone remote adapter?

DB25 will give you fixed level audio out on pin 17 (AFO) (instead of affected by volume control), that's my preference for tone remotes.

Thanks for the information. The only thing that I have been able to find from the remote manufacture is a wiring diagram to interface into the old TK-x180 series radio. Does the NX-5000 series have the same DB-25 pin layout as the TK-x180 series?

Yes, the 180 information will work. All you're really using is SB (+12V) MI2 (mic input) ME (mic ground if separate) AFO (audio out) PTT and GND. You can use channel selection as well if you need to.

With the DB-25 I should having following setup for a 4 channel control station, correct?
Pin 4 (Input) External PTT (voice)
Pin 8 (Input) External Monitor
Pin 20 (Output) COR <TOR?> set Low
Pin 21 (Input) Channel Select D
Pin 22 (Input) Channel Select C
Pin 23 (Input) Channel Select B
Pin 24 (Input) Channel Select A

Looks right to me. I love how configurable these 5000s are compared to the outgoing radios. External PTT (PA)?!? How cool (and CHP oriented) is that!

I've got 4 TK-x180s and 2 NX-x00 radios all configured the same (same wiring) with a 6 line Telex/Vega console and Telex DSP-223 remotes. Works great.

5.) Utilize the outside speaker (OSP) on the KAP-2 for outside audio AND Public Address. There's got to be a way in software to configure the relays to direct the audio outside like it does with the PA audio. Hell, it's probably just a matter of clicking the the PA relay.

EDIT: Looking at the KAP-2 diagram, that's all the PA relay does anyway. Switches SPI between ESP and OSP. All they have to do is toggle this relay on a key function input or add a third layer to External Speaker (Off/On/Ext-Int/Outside). Please Kenwood, make this happen!

The External PTT is for the console to key the radio via the tone panel. The only thing that I can't find is a way for the PTT "Chirp" (for BOT PTT ID) to be produced via the DB-25 port back out to the remote console on key up.

For a four channel control station you technically only need CH Select A B and C. It's binary, so with four inputs you can select 15 channels (0000 is no remote control)

I'm familiar with external PTT and how the console keys the radio.......

Enable PTT ID Sidetone in the personality's System Information/Personal Features

Is the channel configured for an MDC or Fleetsync ID?
Set for Fleetsync ID with a 500ms delay on key up.

You're quick. My last edit: Enable PTT ID Sidetone in the personality's System Information/Personal Features
Yes, the PTT ID Sidetone is checked and works well from the radio speaker when used locally. Is there a way to have that same side tone pushed back to the remote console (4-wire system) via the DB-25 port?

It should be—diagram shows AFO taken out right before the amp so it should have all beeps and noises etc.

Double check your tone remote Config?

Good Afternoon Everyone,
Would anyone happen to know the proper DMR settings to enter in the attached photo for my DMR ID? What boxes on this screen should be selected or deselected and where is the proper location for my DMR id?
Thanks in Advance

In the box you have highlighted in the picture.

Replace that number with the RID you want the radio to transmit.

How about the Global ID field? How does this affect other personalities that are programmed at the same time? P25 Conventional, Conventional Analog and/or NXDN? Would I deselect global ID across the board and set each as needed?
