To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Guys,

If you can, please ask them about DMR implementation. It will be paid option which will add new digital standard additionally to NXDN and P25?

Yes, it'll probably be a paid upgrade unless Kenwood really gets into the DMR market.
I was told that you could have a 3 band radio with analog, NXDN, NexEdge trunking, P25 phase 1 & 2, P25 trunking as well as DMR.
Was also told they are working on a low band RF deck.

Talked to Kenwood today at IWCE. DMR option for the NX-5000 later on this year. Also I asked about a low band RF deck and was told they were "working on it".

Should be interesting. Would make a nice amateur radio set up, 6 meter, 2 meter and 70cm with one control head, P25, NXDN, DMR.

900 MHz would be nice too, any chance someone can ask them about that?

I know Motorola had the DMR market by the cajones until recently, but to me, just now becoming aware of the huge functionality possibilities of the NX-5000 series; this radio should be the hottest topic around! So many modes, with possibility of so many bands; this series could be the "all-band" "all-mode" radio us hams have been looking for years.

Does anybody else feel this could blow up to be something huge? I definitely think it possibly could

No, they are not planning a 900 model, asked in January, but I can tell you, it won't play in the 902 band. Only business 900.

If they do a low-band NXDN deck, we would love it here in CT. 6 meters is very underutilized and does very well with our hilly terrain.

So if i read this correctly it basically says the only way conventional multi-zone scan will work is if you have the channel-table format set to personality. Has anyone else ran into this issue?

That is correct, I don't use personality format. Don't like it.

So that's my issue, if you want multi-zone scan you MUST have it set to personality mode.. That doesn't make any sense at all, and it seems like many users would find this as a issue.

Don't know what to say, I use it and it works for me. Just can't multi zone while on my NXDN trunk zone. That's all.

Here's the thing, if you have a trunk zone, NXDN or p25, you can't multi zone scan FROM that zone. Other wise, you can in or from any conventional zone you have (more than one that is) if you have 17 zones of conventional, have at it, multi zone scan. If you only have one, sorry, no can do.

Anyone heard if Kenwood is going to do high power decks for the NX5000 line?
(e.g. 110w VHF/100W UHF like the TK-5710/5810(G) lines)

I haven't heard anything.
Locally the 100 watt radios are starting to fade away. Even CalFire is now saying only 50 watt radios on their systems. With coverage of systems getting better, their is less need for higher power radios in most places.
Still, it would be nice for a 100 watt VHF RF deck.

I did ask at IWCE about a low band deck. It was mentioned as "considered". A lot of those guys are amateurs and would see the value as a 6 meter radio.

Does anyone know how to preview the alert tones for 2-tone within the software?
