Perhaps some of the units were on one of the trunked systems, which was patched to the zone channel. That would explain the digital-sounding voice and the lack of an MDC ID.

Which precinct's units do you think were on what trunked system? The 084 or the 088? StatCom's? Shomayah Services?

I'm not saying they were, I am just pointing out that its a possibility and would result in exactly what was being described.

It should be noted that the scenario in my original post continued through this morning, at which time the 84-88, 81-83, and 90-94 were instructed to change to "+PBBKN 4/5/6" and "contact the Electronics Section" if their radios are not capable. These three zones on analog are now silent.

No; they are referring to three separate channels in, presumably, a new radio plan, that are called "+PBBKN 4," "+PBBKN 5," and ""+PBBKN 6," mirroring the old conventional Zones 24, 25, and 26, respectively.

Last week, when the dispatch-out was the only audio receivable on a conventional radio, with the exception of Housing units, the dispatcher and Radio Repair were conducting radio checks, at one point with the dispatcher asking "can you guys hear each other?" to which Radio Repair cut in and said "no, they can't, due to the encryption."

Anyone have any Intel on these new alleged encrypted frequencies?

Probably not because they are encrypted.
By checking FCC licensing to NYPD, we should be able to figure out any new licensed frequencies which we could monitor for possible encryption

Try these (report any PL or DPL found):
PBBN 4: 483.5625
PBBN 5: 484.0625
PBBN 6: 484.3125
I am receiving all three frequencies with encryption.

This is a list from last November. I guess they are starting to flesh out, although with encryption the PL/DPL are moot.

how did you know this was the actual usage of those three frequencies:

"PBBN 4, 5 ,6", and do you have any other future usage tags for encrypted precinct frequencies?
