If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hey everyone,

I’m considering switching my remote head XTL5000 over to an O3 head. My question is; how is the radio programmed? Do I just remove the O3 head to program using my regular programming cable?

Also, I’d just need the dash mount speaker/ignition cable? I wouldn’t need the red speaker/power cable that I have on the remote head now?

You can program from the rear connector via USB.

Also; confirming I just need the XTL5K brick with TIB. O3 head, and rear accessory plug (for the speaker) correct?

Sorry for the ignorance here. Never delt with a O3 head before.

I’m in the process of switching vehicles, and no longer have room for a full size head in my console/dash. Hoping to mount the brick behind the rear seat, and then just have the O3 to mount up front.

You also need the radio power cable but I assume you'll already accounted for that. If you dont plan on using ignition sense, you can just snip that wire off and just use it for speaker output.

Yes I have the power cable already as well as the accessory cable. The 5000 is currently set up in dash mount configuration with the O5 head.

Any specific considerations I need to keep in mind when upgrading to the O3? Firmware, etc?

Be patient and let FlashZap do its thing. You may have to power cycle and remove/replace ignition power a couple times. Be patient. If you do an action, and nothing happens, wait about two minutes before undoing or doing something else.

Do you have PMLN4958A? O3 cord by itself prob not long enough.
