As far as I know they were never on the LTR system. This spring they were using Vhf for Fire & Uhf for PD. I have heard that they are eventually going to Viper.

Fire Dispatch 154.3700, 186.2 PL
Fire Tac 154.0700, 186.2 PL.
Police 453.8000, 186.2 PL.
Also Ems & county fire is paged out on 155.5200, Csq.

I was just there this past weekend, and I am a little confused here according to the RR DB 153.845 is Oak Island Dispatch, and the county EMS/Fire Dispatch is 155.52 which when it comes in sounds off frequency and distorted. BTW this is a very busy county, the radio basically never stopped on all the freqs and the LTR system.

Radioman... nothing to be confused about... just a bad paging system. The distortion is on the fire pagers as well. Don't know what the issue is.. it's been that way a while.

I was in Southport for the last 5 days (typing this from Wilmington airport) and had my Pro-106 with me. About the only activity I was picking up in this area was Oak Island PD on 453.8000 (186.2). Signal was loud and clear using just the rubber duck. I had just about everything else programmed in from the RR DB for Brunswick County, and really didn't hear much at all. I never heard Southport at all, which seemed odd. Not sure why though...

NYRHKY94, you should have been able to hear Southport PD on the county LTR system on PD2. As far as the county... the VIPER system is real spotty in Southport.

SENCland:

Thanks for the reply! I did have the LTR system programmed in and heard transmissions on 453.2000 while I was down there. The reception appeared to be quite weak on that system, even though I was not too far away in St. James Plantation. Is Southport PD/FD typically hard to receive from a few miles out? Just curious, as I will be moving down there in a couple years and want to be able to monitor Southport from SJP.

Thanks again!
Mike

The LTR system is pretty weak. That being said, you may have had better luck with the Holden Beach Site. On either site, the audio will always be low. All of the PDs will be moving to the VIPER system soon, and from what I hear they will keep the LTR system for back up. Next time you are down, PM me and if schedules allow, may be we can get together and compare notes, or I'll clone you my setup (PRO-106).

oft,
That article is the last thing I've heard. I've heard the Southport PD using viper as a talk around channel. Oak Island will be on the system Monday, Sept 17.

SENCland:

Which VIPER tgid# has Southport PD has used as the talkaround?

I guess that when Oak Island goes to VIPER on 9-17, the tgid's will be in the 17000's or possibly in the 45000's

Hi SENCland:

Thanks for the folow-up reply and tip about the LTR down there. If you happen to use Win500 for your Pro-106 and wouldn't mind sendining me your current programming file for the area, that would be much appreciated. If not, no problem. My next trip to St. James is not until next April.

Thanks - Mike

Here is my file for Brunswick Co. and surroundig, areas. It's a work in progress, but it seems to work for me.
