What's their coverage sound like on Bergen County's system in comparison to NJICS? The nearest Bergen County site is in Franklin Lakes, but they could also be getting coverage from the Mahwah site. NJICS has a site closer, on Skyline Drive in Ringwood.
Wish I knew. Can’t get the Bergen County system, any of the sites and I’m in Ringwood. Would love them to get back to ICS.

PD Ops 4 is usually a secondary for Wyckoff or Midland Park, if either town needs PD Dispatch 6 for a lockdown or other incidents.

Here is something weird. I have two scanners, a base that does not have digital capability and my whistler TRX-1 which is capable of digital. I set up the system with talk group 4915. I know when Oakland is talking because they still use the VHF low frequencies. The thing is, the TRX-1 is receiving a carrier wave as i can see it on my TRX-1, but no audio. Did I perhaps program it wrong somehow?

An Oakland officer says they are possibly contemplating a switch over to the Bergen County system. Said it has been too many issues with the State system. They are doing comparisons until further notice.

I was actually going to suggest this late last night. I wonder what made them stay for basically 3 years and now decide to switch....
It would make sense once all the LE agencies are cut-over to 700 for them to go full-time.

also, to add, didn’t they test the county system a few years ago and pass on it? Wonder what changed.

Late last year Franklin Lakes was testing on Ops 4 with Oakland portable IDs coming up. They test all over and to the Mahwah border.

Oakland VHF low frequency has been dead since Saturday. I am not receiving anything on NJ IOP either.

You may not be getting anything on the TRX-1 because it doesn't do well with Simulcast Distortion. I had the TRX 1 and TRX 2, I sold both and got a Uniden SDS100 and two SDS200's and I have no issues getting any phase II TRS.

As of last night, they were not back on NJICS Passaic County Simulcast. I monitor daily especially at night with full bars on my 325p2. Assuming they are still on Bergen County 700 at this point.

I highly doubt they will get any better *improved* coverage going to Bergen 700 vs NJICS.

Simple thoughts, stick to VHF analog or P25, at most UHF P25 Conventional

EDIT: I got too long winded and am shortening this.

Just assuming, their NJICS TG and only that TG is patched to their lowband PD frequency. Would make sense, to me anyway.

I would imagine whoever set it up that way purposely made it that way.

i would also suggest going to an SDS100 or 200 or a unication G4/5, just knowing that the later does extremely well on these systems but is a public safety pager that is used as a scanner so it has limitations purposely and is not super user friendly to program (must be done with software on a computer)

Sounds to me like these 700mhz systems are not worth the $$$. One thing I had heard is that VHF low is the best option for suburban and rural areas as the shorter wavelengths have a harder time with wooded areas. UHF frequencies on the other hand are better in a city environment as the shorter wavelengths can penetrate the concrete and steel in an urban setting. That said, I have had better luck monitoring the state police on the 800mhz band. So far, these 700mhz systems stink.

I wish I could. Right now, I just cannot afford it.

There are thousands of users on 700/800 MHz P25 systems in the region who would strongly disagree with those sorts of blanket statements. It's never as cut and dry as "low band is better in the woods, 800 is better in the city." There are myriad factors that go into determining how well any given radio system will perform in the real world, and there are plenty of real world examples of 700/800 trunked systems greatly improving communications over the older low band/VHF analog repeaters that were previously used. Despite no shortage of those who beat the drum for "good old analog", we live in 2022, not 1952, and so change is inevitable. Nothing is perfect, but a well designed system will perform well regardless of the RF band or technology behind it.

Heard Rochelle Park PD also using the County system for a bit today. I am thinking the next migrations to the Bergen Cpunry system will be Oakland and or Bogota.

Don't forget that NJICS isn't meant to provide perfect portable coverage. There are fantastic 700 systems out there...

The VHF low channels are still quiet. Havent heard anything on the 700 band either, not even a carrier. I know they have to be talking somewhere as fire and EMS are still getting calls. I have also seen the police with people pulled over. Dont know where they are hiding.
