Just out of curiousity, did they communicate on the primary channel of the PD or FD? For example, would they just key up on Hefner or Fire Dispatch and start helping? Or how would that go?

Yes. More to assist fire than police, as it was a simple addition of frequencies to an existing UHF media radio. Choppers can be particularly helpful on grass fires. Many times, they would land and pick up a fire chief so they could get a birds-eye view of things.

Funny how they didn't put the Airport Fire channels in the media radio. For some reason I guess they think that it'll give out some secret info! That or it's the fact that there is nothing going on out at the airport!

That's a negative. Airport fire has their own dispatch and tac talkgroups. Media does not have access to any of it.

That said, there have been occasions when OKC fire has been dispatch over FD ALERT for mutual aid. When that happens, a regular FD TAC# tg is assigned and the media can monitor that part of it.

You're kinda right. If it's a medical, hazmat or structural incident, everyone goes to one of the FD TAC's if needed. If it's an aircraft incident, everyone goes to ARFF or ARFFTAC 1 or 2.

Why they denied media access to those 3 are beyond me but oh well, I'm not an administrator so who knows. I guess if "the big one" ever happens, they want media silence.

The airport radios do have all the FD OPS, FD ALERT, FD TAC's and 5D EMSAW.

They were not up due to mechanical issues

What time was the fire? Air One was up and operating last night with no problems. They were on a home invasion at one of my properties.

Once in a while they go though a spurt where they are down or can only fly for so many hours. So it sucks when they are needed and can't.

Pretty sure they are federally regulated like normal pilots. FAA rules state they can only do 8 hours in a day when involved in domestic service. I know when Sgt. Jameson was still piloting, he had several incidents where he was over flight time and had to stay grounded.

Let me rephrase.... if it's big enough to cover.. they will dispatch OKC fire to it. Who cares about the rest.

Aircraft incidents can also be monitored on OKC Fire, once Fire is dispatched...

All units are to switch to ARFF on aircraft incidents IF OKC Fire is dispatched, which normally they aren't.

Never heard anyone reference these last two channels as such. After reading this, I went back to a note I had made about airport affiliations.

For the city EDACS system,
901 (07-005) is airport analog
903 (07-007) is airport analog

obviously 902 (07-006) is missing, but why? 902 is affiliated by the airport fire dept after their use of 905 & 906, which are both provoice fire channels for the airport:

905 (07-011) is ARFF and is provoice digital
906 (07-012) is ARFF TAC and is provoice digital
902 (07-006) is the next affiliation after these channels

So without making assumptions in the database, can anyone confirm this guess:

906 as ARFF TAC 1
902 as ARFF TAC 2

ARFFTAC1 and 2

Well, at first the radios were just programmed with ARFF and ARFFTAC. Then all of the sudden they appeared with ARFFTAC1 and ARFFTAC2 so you're most likely right Gilligan on the ID's.

We rarely use the ARFFTAC1 let alone ARFFTAC2, so no one is missing much.

Isnt saying provoice digital like saying digital digital.......JM2C

No. There is P25 digital, D-Star digital, AOR's digital (not that you'd hear the last two in the real world). I'm sure there are dozens more, as well.
