BTW that was my 12 hour review of which I have actually operated the scanner for 3 of them. Most of that was spent changing the color back and forth from Red to Green to see which one I like most :)

Finally an honest review!

I had this BCD996T plugged in all night and it won't hold a charge! Everytime I unplug the power the scanner goes off!

Now, THAT'S funny!

OK, I asked this is a new message, but no good answer there, so I'll try again here..

WHAT are the TG restrictions in the 996?

The docs say 250 TGs per system, but nothing more.

The 396 only allowed 20 TGs per group, but is that the same in the 996,
and is there still a 20 groups per system restriction??

This was answered in your first thread:wink: , 250 talkgroups total, 20 groups, doesn't matter how many in a group as long as you dont go over 250 total..

You answered your own question. The "docs" are correct.
The 396 only allowed 20 TGs per group
Actually, the amount of TG's allowed is 200 in a group. The Group can have any size up to 200, Conventional, or Trunked TG's.
but is that the same in the 996,
No. Now you can have up to 250 TG's in a Group.
and is there still a 20 groups per system restriction??
Yes.

I am trying to find the setting to set the scanner to search and turn off CTCSS tones for a conventional system/group. The only option setting I find is where you can select this for each individual channel. I want to search every channel with one setting.

Points of Interest Limits / Impact?

So what is the limit on the points of interest, and other GPS points you can enter into the 996?

Do the points of interest take away memory used for channel memory?

Each location takes up a channel memory. You can put in up to the limits of the scanner's total limit of 6000 channels.

Thanks for the response, may I suggest an addition to the Wiki and perhaps the owners manual?

What happens to systems that are turned on and off by GPS when the GPS signal is lost, such as going into a concrete parking garage? Does the system get turned off, or all the off systems get turned on? Or do the systems remain in whatever state they are in (on/off) until the GPS signal is re-acquired?

Systems remain in whatever state they were in. Note that GPS performs a temporary lockout on systems as it moves out of their set range. So, power cycling w/no GPS will result in those systems being unlocked (however, if their SQK is disabled, they will not be scanned).

I thought the 200 limt was ONLY for TGs. Conventional was not limited in the radio and only on Butel software it limits you to 200 conventional.

Correct. The scanner can take up to the limits of total channel space.

Hello,

Yes. What I meant to say was you can program up to 200 Conventional Frequencies per group, (250 for BCD996T) and 20 groups for a possible 4000 Conventional Channels in a system.

That's the thing, you can have MORE than 200 conventional frequencies in a group.

As far as I know (and I think that's what UPMan confirmed), the 200 on the BCD396T and the 250 on the BCD996T is only for talkgroups.

Waiting on my Scanner UPS says tomorrow.. I downloaded the UASD soaftware and wanted to know if there is way to import data from radiorefernce.com web service or CSV?

If it will import csv I could write something to parse the xml web service from RR to create a csv (unless that program is already written)
