I too had to do some dremel work on the plastic trim. I had to shave off the bottom so it would fit right in my honda civic. here are some pics: http://www.radioreference.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=16174&start=95

Hi Chris,
Just sent you an email. I bought a second 2096 a month ago, guess I like it.

My problem is I move the squelch over more than I like it. I think it is more of a learning curve. The volume and squelch control the same way on the 97 I am getting better with it. If this is the only problem I ever have with this radio I can live with it.Davejb said:The volume control is really irritating, just a slight touch of it and you go from low volume level to very loud, much too sensitive.

Does anyone know what is different about the new firmware?
Is it to accommodate new hardware like the PRO-96 CPU V1.4?

Joe, I think that is exactly what it is. Just the 2096 equivalent of the Pro 96 version of 1.4
Only difference that I have noticed, aside from the louder robust audio, is that I now get the 40xxx tg's that I could not receive with the Original Pro 96 CPU
I have the original version of the Pro 96 bought back in Oct. 2003 with CPU 1.1 and DSP 1.2 that is still working great for me. Never did get the CPU upgraded for that one.

Comparing apples to apples, are you saying that 2096 V1.1 didn't receive those TGs? The 96 V1.3 fixed that problem long before the 2096 came out, and I would have expected that 2096 V1.1 would have been equivalent to 96 V1.3.
People have mentioned that there is no 1.2 on the RS web site, and have suggested calling RS. Well, history has shown that the RS CS people are some of the LAST to know about anything new, and if 2096 V1.2 is to accommodate new hardware, 1.2 might NOT be an update for the original version hardware (which would explain why 1.2 may never show up on the RS web site).

I think you misinterpreted my post. I meant this is that I now get the 40xxx tg's that I could not receive with the Original Pro 96 CPU
I still don't get them with the original firmware that I have in my Pro 96 that I got in Oct / 03
The cpu is indeed 1.2 on my new 2096 that I just got on Friday shipped from Scanners Unlimited.
Again, the bug should have been (and I believe was) fixed with the 2096 CPU 1.1 as well (actually, I believe it never existed in the 2096 at all), and was definitely fixed in 96 CPU 1.3. The implication of your post is that 2096 1.2 fixes this problem. It does not. It may fix it from your view, but the issue was fixed over a year ago and is not directly relevant to 2096 CPU 1.2 at all, or even the PRO-2096 at all.
