Trying to decide between the Pro 83 & BC92XLT, the Pro is on sale for $99 in my hometown. Does anyone own a BC92XLT? Haven't heard much about it....Thanks
I would pick the uniden 92 any day over the r.s. pro-83.......being the 92 in that day was a real scanner ...the pro-83 looks and feels like a frs radio and it seems to be made real cheap... I am not happy at all with the 83 signal stalker. It didnt even work one night I was in the drive thru, untill i was out front the building... This happend before also with my c.b....!!!!!!

I agree that the 83 is not much of a scanner, BUT the Signal Stalker works GREAT. I get railroad hits inside my brick house from a mile away with the stock antenna. Also our UHF work radios from the lobby to the dock, etc.

I like it as a second scanner and I think the signal stalker feature works great. But hey, to each his own.

You have to expect that someone would seek out this thread and gripe about the radio. This is what they do. What is the difference between the 92 and the 83 any way.

It has alot of "I wished it hads" but I did not spend that money for it. I bought 2 for $120 so I am more than happy with its performance!

Trash me now! 'Cause I like the Pro-99... Just saw one yesterday . It has some neat features. (Multiple freqs per Freq name, Pl tones!)

OT, but did you check out the SC230 yet  Now that's a 8) Race/Conventional scanner :!:

As for software for the PRO-83, I'd recommend ARC83 to anyone :!: Just too bad Radio Shack wanted upload to scanner only

The PRO-83 sold so well, I'll bet Radio Shack will take another look at this one...

Hey, I like the Pro-99 too. To me the 99 kind of slipped in and people just thought "Oh another racing scanner". I like it better than the 83. I like to use the PL tones, and text tags. I sold my 83 to a person at work for what I paid for it after playing with it for a month.

I think most people got the 83 and then once they got their 246, they got their money back.

Go to walgreens / walmart etc., and buy a cell phone swivel clip. The little button part sticks to the scanner & the other part is a belt clip. I always use a little super glue also. I wouldn't use one for a $500 scanner, but it should be great for the 83. I watched some of the X-Games yesterday (pretty cool).

okay, i've had this gadget for only a few hours and am having problems already. i've programmed a few frequencies so far and the problem is that in regular scan mode it stops at every freq i've programmed (and a couple of factory preset freqs) even if nothing is being transmitted. all that is heard is backgroud static until someone uses the frequency. turning squelch all the way clockwise isn't solving the problem, either.

so essentially, i have to continually press 'scan' if i want it to function like it should in the first place.

thoughts?
accusations, even?

Wierd. Be sure your not in scan & signal stalker mode at the same time.

Jerry

after trying everything i could think of, i'm reserved to the probability that it's defective.

i forgot to mention that every transmission was accompanied with a background squeal.

something isn't right with this scanner.

maybe i'll just exchange it for a 95.
