Yes, I know. Just a little interesting that Uniden would get FCC certification on a Radio Shack version with Signal Stalker Search/Close Call before release of the BC246T. But then again this is the first Uniden model from the Radio Shack side after the PRO-94A/PRO-2052 all the others were GRE.

Yep - maybe they are trying to get their foot back in the door. Of course, getting the TA doesn't mean squat. They can still release the 246 months before they make the 83 available to RS. From what I've seen so far, there isn't any competition anyway. Neither is a high end unit, but the 83 is very close to the bottom of the line for a modern unit.

I have no plan to buy one, but at least we get a preview of the Signal Stalker Search/Close Call in the owners manual before release of the BC246T. Maybe even in the store before the 246 comes out. The manual is real descriptive about SS and looks easy to operate. I just don’t know if I like the idea of a scanner having a “stalker” label. That sounds like something a “propeller head” would come up with.

I like the Uniden versions Radio Shack has had in the past. It will be interesting to see if there will be a Radio Shack version of the BC246T and have the same style chassis. The trend was to have most or all the features in a different body style like the BC3000XLT to the PRO-26. The BC235XLT was the direct cover of the PRO-90, but then the BC245XLT was the PRO-94 without computer control, but added more memory. Then the BC250D was sold from Radio Shack Direct so lets see what way they decide to go this time.

Will Close Call work good in a high RF area. If it won't i won't get one. I guess i'll wait for someone to buy one in a big city and ask them how well Close Call works.

Beta Testers Wanted

I already know this is going to be a challenging subject, but here goes:

I need about 15 beta testers to run FPP BC246T's through their paces prior to product release.

If you are available to do this, note the following general conditions (there will be a legal release we will execute with you that includes these terms and possibly a few others):

a) Everything you learn, hear, see, think, or do regarding the BC246T beta test must be kept between Uniden and you. One post to a public board, and we will yank the sample and reassign the scanner to someone else. No exceptions and no excuses.

b) I am looking for good geographic dispersement of the samples into primarily analog trunking areas. If I get multiple contacts in the same area, I'll have to pick one.

c) You must be 18 or older.

d) You must be able to commit 20-30 hours to testing over about a 2-week period starting in late August.

e) Comply with the terms, keep the scanner. (FPP's are from first production, so they are equivalent to what will end up on the shelves.)

If you are interested, send me a PM. If I don't pick you, it isn't because I don't like you...probably. However, I have some internal requirements for testers that I also have to consider.

In your PM, include your complete name, address, email address, and phone number. Also, include a list of the major radio systems and their types in your area...some additional weight is given to people in areas with more system types (i.e. Motorola VHF, UHF, 800, 900, LTR, EDACS...)

Let the PM flood begin!

I should mention, we will be meeting early next week to try to nail down the beta coverage areas. If you respond, thanks, and I will get back to you one way or ther other, but it might be later in the week. Lots to do, little time to do it.

Hey,

I like the memory worksheets :!:

Gives you a map to program by. I still think we will need software to enter the information.

Owners manual doesn't say anything about a cable being included though?

Good catch. We are waiting for a drawing to insert that one.

Keep 'em coming. I still have a day or two to fix things.

Saw a typo in the URL for radioreference.com in the end, it was listed www..radioreference.com (too many periods) Also did not understand in the appendix where it says "minimum" for the number of systems / talkgroups / etc.
