Is it possible to only have one frequency for a trunking system? And would that work in a scanner with just one frequency? Thanks

To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:
Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.
The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.
For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

well, you'd need at least two freqs - one for the
control channel and one for communications...
but that really doesn't make allot of sense....
I guess I could see a three channel system where
two communications freqs (plus 1 control channel)
could be shared amongst numerous users - first come
first serve.
I think the fewest freqs I've seen in a trunked system
was 4 (1 CC and 3 voice channels)

Yes it is!
In EDACS it is called SCAT or Single Channel Autonomous Trunking.
The Control Channel also acts as the working channel for that system.

Yes - Uniden - 250D/785D and probably others
When you set the bank to this type of Edacs it mutes the data and allows you to hear only the voice. this is a ONE frequency system that only allows one user (company) to be active at a time. Other users (companies) do not hear the transmissions.

With different PL/DPL's there would not be interference on the repeater.... except for the fact that there is no repeater made that is set up for multiple tones. You would need multiple repeaters utilizing different tones. Take a look at Lincoln County, MS's EOC set up... One freq for output- 155.8950 MHz.... Two repeaters, one North, one South... each with the same inputs.... But different tones. And for large multi county districts for MS's Dept of Forestry, and Agriculture.... One freq for the repeaters... up to two repeaters per county in each district... a different tone on each repeater.
But for those agencies that can do the trunking route, thats the smartest route to go.

You can if the two agencies are far removed so that the capture effect happens, but then you only hear one conversation. All PL/DPL does is keep your receiver closed if the correct tone isn't heard. Once your reciever opens up you are subject to interference.
If you could put multiple agencies on the same frequency with different PL/DPLs and not have interference, there would be no need to have more than one frequency nationwide.

Lima PD, Lima FD, Shawnee Twp. FD, Elida FD and Allen County Sheriff are all running repeaters.

Multi-PL/DPL repeaters have been around fpor a VERY long time.
They were called "Community Repeaters" back before Trunking.
They did what one channel trunking does in a simple way.
