I heard a Beech Grove PD unit ask dispatch this morning if they were supposed to switch their radio's to digital today and dispatch said they were not sure...they have not heard anything from Meca.

Wow, MECA sure is managing to turn this into a cluster***** aren't they. Agencies don't even know whether they're supposed to switch or not?

According to MECA today, the cutover will go forward as soon as CAD testing is done (any day now). Now fire may be a different situation, but it appears all other will go ahead..

Thats if MECA gets there way but right now they are getting a lot of higher up pressure to hold off so a wait and see game agian. Sure is fun to see all this happing maybe one day it will get all done and public safety will be back to normal. Thanks for the info.

More Testing

I heard more mask and oxygen alert testing this morning. It actually seems to be getting better.

Getting better?? Not from what I heard today, it was worse. And no sign of getting better. One firefighter I spoke to the other day said if MECA insists on their department using the system they will go on their own for dispatch and so on, their town wants nothing to do with the new system at this point.

FYI - For past week IFD has been doing BC training and practicing a new rapid intervention command policy. They were using digital FD-OP3. The BC's were down town and the actors were at Post Rd. All the background noise was pre-recorded and played from PC speakers as they talked. The BC were watching a video clip of a large building fire while the speakers in the room played "pump apparatus" noise.

Last word from MECA is one week after CAD interface is done, the switch will occur. No date given, and no indication at my level that fire will not switch.

Sure is funny MECA was going to cut every one over a month ago and NO CAD testing was done NO IMPD radio test where done to check Radio ID's till the last two weeks or other checks I think they missed a step or two for cut over and it is funny now all of a suden it is getting done when they get bad press and the higher ups are on them.

I've been running ID Tracker for the last two days. FD-OP3 (TG 10707) has registered well over 1500 hits during that time.

I figured they must have been piping in noise for realism, but you know I couldn't hear much background at all, except what must have been PASS devices squealling at times. I only noted a couple of times when Command asked for a repeat because they couldn't copy.

This AM they were prepping and discussing use of OP3 and said they might use also OP4 a little at one point. They seem to get up and running around 0830.

Ridiculous. I can't help but expect that when they finally do the cutover, it's going to be a cluster of epic proportions. Things seemed to be going so well for the last two years, but the way they've handled the last couple months has been incompetent.

Sorry guys but I have to take my feed off the air for a few days. The PC that's hosting it needs to go bye-bye for warranty service. I'll advise here re: its return.
