Looks like the first cutover in April was delayed due to an other dept moving offices and computer and phones they did not want it all down and changing at the same time the second delay was digital issues ID's not right not enogh testing and training and the Fire Depts noise issues. The 3rd delay is higher up questioning the digital system so for now it looks like just Fire Dept training with the new radios to listen to and Motorola tweaking the system. As for the old analog they might be adding the freqs to the new tower sites for better covrage and for Fire to use the Analog till some the Digital issues gets worked out and have PD cut over but for now NO cutover dates set MECA is on hold still. Still no movement on APCO or the FCC incase any one cares.

I received an email on this today....

The outstanding issues with the CAD interface have been resolved. As a result, MECA is now moving forward with the cutover from analog to digital. Attached is the cutover schedule identifying which dates agencies will be cutting over. The cutover will take approximately 2 weeks, beginning with the City of Beech Grove on Tuesday, June 24, 2008. The Town of Speedway and the City of Lawrence will follow on Thursday, June 26, 2008 and Friday, June 27, 2008 respectively. IMPD, IFD and other law enforcement and fire agencies will follow with their cutovers the following week, beginning June 30, 2008.

The newest edition of the Radio Roundup will be disseminated within the next 36 hours. I would request that this document be forwarded to all members of your agency, as it will contain important information for users. Should there be any questions regarding cutover, protocols, etc., please feel free to contact me at the numbers below.

Thank you all for your patience, and I look forward to a successful cutover.

Sorry but system 1 sounds very bad on the Northwest Side of Indianapolis.I cannot even get a signal on System 2 for DPW as well.Just my 2 cents worth.

Interesting, it says ALL communication will take place on the digital system after everybody is migrated.

And this quote was interesting “I was very happy with the system’s quality and the coverage we found during the testing,” said Scott Raymond, MECA’s customer service coordinator. “Places where MECA had received reports for previously having no coverage, now has coverage. I tested downtown and southwest Marion County and found very few spots
where we could not transmit and receive.” I hope they are working on that!

But they are saying it's 99.5% coverage. I know when I heard them two weeks ago, coverage was excellent to the South better than the first time I heard the system.

Boy talk about some but kissing and politics in that news letter all you have to do is listen and tell half of that is not true on the air if all sys 2 users are on digital then why is there a lot of traffic still on analog and people on there saying the digital is no good thats why there are back on analog.
The 99.5% was using the long antenna where most users use the short what about that testing?

It'd be nice if this thread could stay on topic about operational and technical details of the new MECA Digital system. The ongoing "it's gonna happen", "no it's not" debate accomplishes nothing.

If you have information that you have personally monitored about agencies that are coming online or talkgroups that are active, we'd all like to hear it. If you have official information from attributable sources about the system, we'd all like to hear it. Also, the folks who are new to digital scanning would probably appreciate tips on how to monitor the system. But personal opinions, baseless speculations, and rumors from some guy who knows a guy really belong in another thread.

Thank you.

I agree with this..Lets move away from the whole politics debate and keep this thread on track with useful information.

I posted this before, and it may have been missed.
But on my Uniden 396, moving it a matter of inches 6-8 inches, with a rubber duck antenna made the decode rate go from 30-20 to zero. I was located (in a building) inside the 465 loop on the Southwest side of Indy. So for some users that may be all it takes, simply moving the scanner can improve reception. (or make it worse ;) ) ymmv. And I thought the sound was on par for Uniden.

Here is the new edition of MECA Radio Roundup. Has some pretty good info. Looks like it's all systems go..

The part about the analog/digital balancing was interesting. I assume the handheld shown in the newsletter is their radio of choice. The antenna looks quite a bit longer than the others I've seen. I was wondering if it was a new design for better range.

The times I have listened to the new system it sounds pretty good, except for the fireground testing. My 396 does better with it than SAFE-T.

that is a stock photo...thats a vhf or uhf antenna, i think. they may make the 800mhz antenna that size. The new radios at IFD that I've seen all have the stubby antenna.

Each user was given 1 long and 1 short stuby the longs where used in testing "99.5%"
the short did not due as well. Each user was told they could use the short stubby but was told it may not do as well as the long that it was the users choice.
