OPP common

Is OPP common channel a car to car, and also patched in with Strathroy PD, they were catching a car thief , the car had On Star, unknown to the thief, but they went to Opp common near Melbourne and I could not pick them up any more on 142.77000 ? Is there a better common channel frequency for Strathroy?

Nope... OPC Common is 142.770 province wide. Strathroy will directly switch their radios to OPC Common while the OPP Comm Centre will patch the OPS talkgroup to 142.770. Signal will vary... I'm not sure how many repeater towers are setup thru the area.

OPP comm center, has the ability to turn on/off OPC repeaters on some towers. Sometimes there are a bunch of repeaters on, and sometimes only a few. After a chase is done , or something involving opp and local police, i have heard the 142.770 repeater remain on for 5 hours afterwards, with the OPP local talkgroup still being patched through, because they were so busy to turn the patch off afterwards and the local police department going back to their regular channel.

I dont know which towers are selected or if a multitower select is automatic when Comm Center patches to OPC repeater in the talkgroup district, perhaps someone on RR here, can explain it.
