Looks like OCSO made some type of switch. 2 days ago my BC246 went silent on all OCSO TG's. Occasionaly still recieving Inter-City and Metro 8 and OCFRD Ch. 7. Anyone have any details?

Did you read the thread?

I did read it but I confused the join dates of everyone I saw as original posting dates. Sorry about that. I guess I'll be able to hear FD at least until they decide to encrypt. This really sucks!!!

As far as I am aware, there are no plans to encrypt OCFR. Just the SO and PD TG's.

I would not expect the FD to encrypt but you never know I guess, It does seem like Law enforcement is more often than not deciding to encrypt on these digital systems, but not all the time. I just got back from Anchorage, Alaska and on their system there the State Police is encrypted but Anchorage Police and Fire operates in the clear.

I work for a well known "defense contractor" with lots of trusted people in the IT department.
What type of software would I ask for to defeat this system?
Most of the guys I know in the IT section have little interest in scanners..but they're always willing to take up a challenge.
I would have to know what specifically to ask for.
May not be much, but I'm willing to start working on a solution.

Well, for starters you'd begin with asking for 7-20 years in prison for electronic/computer tresspass. What you'd be asking someone to do is unlawful.

Forget it. Its not happening. Listen to fire. Life goes on after encrypted police comms.

Yep...try not to worry yourself about it!
An engineer told me back in 1990: " You'll never listen to this new EDACS trunking system, it's foolproof". lol
3 weeks later....we were listening to it.
It 's just a matter of time.

Just an update here, I finally figured out why I had been unable to receive the OC Digital System, and this is kind of dumb, but on the EZ Scan software I discovered the Simulcast system was locked out.

Hi danfl: Since you were conveniently thrown under the bus by N2HBX, ref to "not paying attention" to the email. lol I guess some of us have to work for a living & cannot peruse his email 24/7.
I have yet to hear an answer if the UNIDEN BC296D with the APCO-25 card, will receive OCSO.
danfl: Perhaps you know the answer? The UNIDEN BC296D works great at listening to digital signals from both KSC & the Cape Canaveral A.F. Station...but so far, only hearing encrypted trash from OCSO.
Thanks

Actually, I was referring to the DEPUTY coming up on the wrong talkgroup before the cutover not reading his email about the change. But, hey, thanks for the snotty remark anyway, fool.

BTW, I work quite hard for a living, thanks.

I thought that I would 'chime in' right about now, after closely monitoring this thread from Day 1...

I have been working with Orange County Government for the last two years regarding potential scanner monitoring of the law enforcement portion of this system, as both citizens and the news media want access to routine dispatch as well as ADMIN 1 (CODE 3 Calls) on the OCSO and law enforcement municipalities portion of this system.

Frankly, I was 'shocked' to see that every OCSO talkgroup (if the information is accurate) has been posted in the database section of RR; one week after the launch to P25, as very few people have access to this information, given this info directly relates to an encrypted portion of the Orange County radio system. I can only think of one person who posts here that would would even have access to this information. Either way, I cant imagine that the Orange County Sheriff's Office will be too thrilled when they see their newly encrypted talkgroups posted on RR.

As a side note...Trooper is absolutely right, it is a 'federal crime' and highly unlawful to monitor radio encryption. Its certainly not worth going to prison over...

In the form of an update...Osceola & Seminole Counties are next, as these two counties plan to join Lake and Orange in the technology advancement to P25 and the sharing of a mutual communications encryption key.

I recently received confirmation that all Osceola County Agencies have definitively planned to utilize radio encryption on every law enforcement, fire/rescue and medical radio system talkgroup, when they migrate to P25 in a few months. Conversely, Orange County Fire Rescue does not see the need to encrypt, as they are a HIPAA Compliant Agency.

I continue to educate and work with Orange County Government every day regarding potential public monitoring access to the law enforcement portion of their radio system, that is a fair and balanced solution for all who wish to use the system, as well as those who wish to monitor it.

My eventual goal is to reach out to my legislators to help design and create a law which will one day prevent Florida based law enforcement agencies from encrypting routine/dispatch talkgroups and or radio channels which will; as a result of monitoring, allow citizens the ability to protect themselves from harm and or disaster as it approaches...as well as allow the media the freedom to report breaking news, (given that they gather pertinent information from a radio scanner) which could in turn; save lives.

Updates on the progress of this debate will be posted on: C.A.N.T.R.E.E. : WX4ADX

I do not plan on monitoring this thread too closely, as I expect that it will close soon (given recent comments). If you have any questions about this issue or post, please feel free to drop me an email thru my website.

All My Best,

Joe

Get Over It

Gee, Joe,

I'm sorry you were "shocked" so badly. Hopefully you haven't been scarred for life over it.

I'm thinking you should have been more shocked years ago when this information first appeared in the database.

Basically, the only information presented was that although the talkgroup ID's didn't change, the PD's went encrypted. Explain to me how that is "sensitive" information? Besides, us "insiders" shouldn't even need to give out talkgroup ID's. "Scanner experts" such as yourself should be able to cull this information yourselves. Since they're encrypted anyway and cannot be monitored, the point is moot. I'd also like to point out that the OPD talkgroups have been listed in the database for ages and noted as encrypted. Same with Winter Park, Apopka, and Maitland. Where is your moral outrage over these listings?

For the record, I gave out no talkgroup ID's...if you will notice, the only ID's given out in this thread were by another poster that he obtained through his own efforts. I do not give out talkgroup ID's in these threads unless the information has already been cleared or is available elsewhere. And trust me, I have a few "juicy" ones that I would never give out under any circumstances.

BTW, I was copied on your email where you tried to throw me under the bus...we all had a good laugh over it. Nice try, though.

Larry

this is why i sold all my scanners, anyway i hope someone does prove these idiots wrong and decrypt it, federal crime or not, simple answer is dont help law enforcement out under any circumstances, they dont need anyone but themselves, orange county is so full of political crap its sickening (and yes for years i was part of it) it was fun while it lasted, these forums are for people to just stroke their ego's and taunt people because they have nothing better to do

Gee, I really don't think I taunt anybody. At least, that's not my intention. I enjoy posting to disseminate some (hopefully) useful information and help people with their pursuits, within the constraints of what I'm allowed to put out. There are those here with which I enjoy spirited debate. But, when someone posts something blatantly stupid or untrue or makes thinly veiled accusations, I'm going to call them out on it. Plus, I don't consider it particularly "ego-stroking" to contribute to a discussion or put out notice of some upcoming event that may be of interest to other hobbyists.

But, whatever.....

Might be time for the moderator to lock this thread. All of the really useful information has already been posted in the first page or so anyway.

Larry i never mentioned names and never intended to single anyone out, if they feel singled out well that's not my problem, but as you say whatever, because someone says something someone doesn't like lets just lock the thread, honestly i dont listen anymore, i have bigger priorities in life than worrying about the lack of transparency in law enforcement
but people are waking up, and will fight this, and no matter what anyone says from Val or Jerry Demmings, or their cronies Rintoul and the other people who have a vested interest to keep encryption, well in america never say never, it just may take some time, but people are watching and waking up now, and all we have to do is wait for OPD or OCSO to screw up and someone will be all over them

I recall a great YouTube video out there from a radio conference (Australia?) where they demonstrated a successful brute force of an encryption key in several minutes. For the life of me I can't find it...
