Confused

I thought this is a Project 25 Motorola X2-TDMA system that could only be monitored by a GRE PSR-800. But people in this thread are saying a 396XT, Pro-96 and Pro-2096 can monitor this system?

At the time of this post I am using a 396XT programmed by Freescan and have a strong control channel signal on 859.4375 (5 bars) but the radio will not lock to it.

I set it up as a P25 Standard (Digital XT) system, is that correct?

System type is correct, lock out the 859.4375 control channel because that is the primary control channel for the old system, make sure the control channel is showing 851.4125 because that is the primary control channel for the new system. The control channel sets are the same for both systems.

The system so far is running P25 phase 1 transmissions as all of the radios on that system are either ASTRO Spectra/XTL5000/XTS5000 which are not P25 X2 or Phase 2 capable. Orange County however has set up a TDMA trunking table though.

1. Hello Exportdawg, thanks for your very helpful info.

2. To TonyOrlando, I have programmed a Pro-96 & a Pro-2096 using ARC 96, and am monitoring the system & talkgroups. Set the software for Motorola P25 system, and it should work.

3. 267 is an ambulance to hospital talkgroup, unk which one; 291 is PSAP

4. At least for now, the talkgroups are simulcast on the Orange Co analog system. So on your analog Motorola radios and analog trunking scanners you are hearing the audio from the digital system on its analog equivalent talkgroup.

5. Ocoee PD is encrypted. I have not confirmed, but a co-worker informs me that Winter Garden PD is encrypted.

Thanks everyone, please keep posting the helpful info.

FYI, TG 267 is EMS to ORMC

Well I must be doing something wrong on the 396XT. It doesn't lock to the control channel. If I hold on 851.4125 I get 4bars signal strength and it displays "SID:046Ch-0101" on the top line.
Occasionally it will show in place of the frequency "ID:209" or some other ID. So I think it is hearing the control channel but it will not lock to it in scan mode.

Is this the only freq's for the system?
851.13750a, 851.41250c, 852.35000a, 852.60000a, 858.43750a, 859.43750a

It doesn't seem to be enough since the analog system has 28 freq's for the site.

Anyway, I locked out 859.4375 which has the analog control data audio but I don't hear any audio on 851.4125 and I would expect to hear the control channel data.

That's all the control channels for the simulcast system that I am aware of. Do you have your settings on Multi site Roam? If not, try that and see if that takes care of the problem.

all the tg's in the system are changed.

Um, actually, no. The old TG ID's are the same on the P25 system. If you look at dawg's list, convert them to hex, and compare them against the old system, you will see that this is so.

Encryption (again)

With all of this abuse of our tax $ by not allowing we the taxpayers to monitor and know how those $ are being spent, it makes me think... All of these systems use the same encryption feature. It SHOULD be possible for someone with software engineering skills to make software to decrypt it and should be possible to host it on an international FTP site which can not be controlled by the U.S. Government, hence in short order it could become widely and commonly in use through the U.S. by being readily downloadable thus rendering the federal laws banning such practice as unenforcible and impossible to prevent.

There IS software out there to do TDMA decoding using Linux. It would seem to me only a matter of time before someone with the skills will develop decryption software to "decode" the encrypted communication and no law will prevent or stop it as long as it is no hosted within the U.S.

Once such software exists and is freely available, in widespread use, agencies will have no reason to use encryption and Motorola will have one less selling point.

Anyone know if anyone is working on decryption software to decode the encrypted communications yet? I know there is work being done to decode TDMA.

Hi danfl: Since you were conveniently thrown under the bus by N2HBX, ref to "not paying attention" to the email. lol I guess some of us have to work for a living & cannot peruse his email 24/7.
I have yet to hear an answer if the UNIDEN BC296D with the APCO-25 card, will receive OCSO.
danfl: Perhaps you know the answer? The UNIDEN BC296D works great at listening to digital signals from both KSC & the Cape Canaveral A.F. Station...but so far, only hearing encrypted trash from OCSO.
Thanks

Your BC296D with APCO-25 card, along with every other scanner in existence, cannot decode encryption. Receive, yes. Decode, no.

Did you figure out the problem?

Not yet. I even added all the new freq's in the database so now I have 18 with 859.4375 locked out. It didn't help. I can receive the analog system just fine and both of the new P25 380 MHz PAFB and CCAFS systems here in Brevard Co. This is the only system in central FL I can't receive. What radio and programming software do you use?

I will be no help with your scanner model. All my Scanners are GRE with the exception of a Home Patrol unit.

I use Win500 for my GRE's with the exception of my GRE 800's which have there own program. I would be happy to go over my Win500 settings for my GRE 500/600 if that helps. Send me a PM

Orange Co P25 system

In reply to ac4jx,

If your scanner with digital card is the Uniden BC-296D or BC-796D, you can monitor the unencrypted talkgroups on this system. However, you can do this only if you download the firmware update from Uniden website, and install the firmware update in your scanner. The update enables the scanner to recognize the rebanded frequencies.

The BC-250D or 785D will not work, because they can't handle the 9600 baud control channel, and they won't recognize some of the rebanded frquencies. You can program the channels in the conventional mode, and scan them, but the constant noise of encrypted law talkgroups will drive you nuts.

Your best bet is to get a scanner such as Uniden BCD 396T, 396XT, 996T, 996XT or Home Patrol; or a Radio Shack Pro-96, -2096, -106; or a GRE PSR-500, -600, or -800.

And thanks to your daughter for the job she does for the community.

Good luck

Uniden Setup

Does anyone use a Uniden with FreeSCAN on this system ?

Could you post the system setup and site setup information?

Tried 9 ways from Sunday to get my Pro-96 to track the new OC system with no luck. Seems to be some confusion as to whether it can do it or not. I just used Win96 to import the most recent database from RR with no luck. Will have to take the scanner in the car next. I know that since Orlando went digital my Pro-96 is useless at receiving the control channel on my side of town (Waterford Lakes). I can "hear" the control channel at 851.4125 but the scanner doesn't even show any signal strength.

Looks like I'll be using the Live Online Scanner at the house to listen (thank you for providing)

I cannot receive (PSR-800) the digital system at all right now, I tried to lock out the analog control channel but I still don't get anything. I also searched to use public safety service search to listen to the control channel (851.4125) I picked up a lot of digital traffic in the 700 MHZ loud and clear on the way there, but when I got to the control channel, to me it sounded like a very weak signal even though the meter shows 4 bars. Is anyone on the east side of county (near Bithlo) receiving this system well just using a RS 800 MHZ antenna or similar?
