• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I've got an Orion that goes into PC PROG mode when turned on with the programming
cable attached, but all attempts to read the radio end in a timeout after multiple
failed attempts to load the RAM bootstrap.

Any ideas?

If you can try another Orion to make sure your setup is working correctly. If it is you might need to perform a recovery on the radio using the Maint programm.

The radio SEEMS to be operating normally, though. And the programming setup works
fine with other types of radios and my Orion programming cable is known to be good.

I'm using a genuine GE TQ3370 RIB box. (I have two of them, one as a spare. I don't trust
the aftermarket boxes at all.)

Radio Maintenance does the same thing....tries to load the RAM bootloader and times
out after about 20 tries, even if just asking for radio information.

While I'm at it, I'd like to ask you if you can give me the part number ranges for the
various circuit boards in a "short" Orion, in VHF, UHF, 800, and 900. Because I'm
digging through a BIG box full of boards and am not even sure which vco/synth boards
(bottom board on the radio) are specifically for which band.

The flex ribbon running from the DB37 through the PA to the logic board may have failed (pushed in pin on the DB37 etc.). If so, you could try swapping the PA off the back of the radios to program your radio and then swap it back to use the radio.
