P25RX Display

I do like the display that Todd has produced. As I understand, it will not have a case for it. Does anyone have ideas as to what kind of case could it be placed in?
I have also seen the pine64 phone that could be used but just not sure it would display the same output that Todd is displaying. This is going to be placed in a car along side the P25...

Keep putting the focus on building more P25rx’s and tweaking the firmware.

It’ll be available when it’s available.

Unless I missed it, any chance for overall measurements and port locations?

A rough idea is fine. Doesn’t have to be anything too crazy. I know that there are Chinese companies that stalk GitHub and other locations looking for their next rip-off.

I wasn't planning on it, but I could do a partial kit. It would consist of a partially populated pcb (passives), the lcd module, and a short cable. The rest of the parts are readily available (normally).

I like the idea of an open design. I'd like to roll my own and think of different ways to package it.

Great! I'm hoping others take this start and do some interesting things with it. The design files are in the hardware directory. They are in Eagle 7.6 format. It should import fairly clean into KiCad.

What are your plans for the display in terms of an enclosure? My hopes are what we’re seeing in the video.

As I mentioned in one of the other threads, I’d like to get a case put together for the display, the P25RX, a speaker and probably a battery to run it all.

I know some are thinking that this would end up being a scanner that you could just buy off the shelf already but to me, this would make an excellent addition for my mobile listening needs.

I’ll take the weird form factor given how well the P25RX performs and the support you’re giving it.

I’ve been combing the usual haunts (Amazon, AliExpress, eBay, Mouser, etc.) looking at project boxes/enclosures.

Here is what I want:

An all in one package that is large enough to fit the P25RX, the display, a slim usb battery pack or 18650 holder and enough space to squeeze in a decent sized speaker. I’d rough in ports and light pipes for the led’s.

There are several companies out there who do custom enclosure work as well but based on my initial contact with a few of them, it’s going to be very costly to get something that doesn’t look like junk and is functional.

We’ll see what ends up happening.

Haven’t heard anything about displays being available just yet but I also haven’t been lurking here on RR daily so I’m out of the loop with all of the latest P25RX developments.

I have been looking at shapeways and some other 3D printing sources for something that may work. 3D printing might be the best source for a reasonable cost wise solution...

I'll try to make some progress on the display tomorrow and the next day. I do not have any ready to ship. I have parts to build a few, but there is an issue that needs to be resolved first.

Display update:
Finally, it appears that the remaining issues with the display firmware are resolved (at least with my test unit). After I get some feedback on this firmware, I'll work on getting some more displays ready for testing. I already have enough testers lined up for now. Once it appears that it is working for the testers, I'll work on getting the first round ready for sale.

Can’t wait. Have some trips planned this summer (Need to pull the eject handle on WA State!) and I expect my P25RX will shape up to be an excellent travel companion.
