Suspect Arrested
PARKER, Colo. -- A suspect who allegedly shot a coworker at a construction site in Parker Wednesday morning was apprehended about eight hours later southwest of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Parker detectives are en route to New Mexico to further investigate the situation.
According to police, the victim and a co-worker were getting ready for work at about 7:45 a.m when an argument ensued.
"This morning, they showed up for work. The victim came to work, got out of his truck, started to unload his tools. The suspect, who also works at the same construction site, went to his car, retrieved a handgun and proceeded to shoot the victim multiple times," said Elise Penington, with Parker Community Affairs.
At least 18 shots were fired, authorities said. The victim fell into the middle of Longs Way, where he died, according to police.
Workers told police that the gunman jumped in a white 1991 Mazda sedan and drove away. His whereabouts are not known, but several SWAT teams from Douglas County were called in to help hunt for him, police said.
Police are searching for the four-door sedan with license plate 530 MPF.
Police identified the man being sought in connection with the shooting as Ricardo Jamie Sanchez, 33. He has short, dark hair, a moustache, and scar above his right eye. He was last seen wearing blue jeans, a gray sweatshirt with a construction logo on the left breast and muddy boots.
Police said Sanchez should be considered armed and dangerous.
Two school facilities -- Cherokee Trail Elementary School and Douglas County Schools Support Center -- were locked down while police searched for the gunman. Parker police sent out reverse 911 calls to residents and businesses in the area, telling people to stay indoors.
