I would expect the system to be heard southwest of Parsippany as there aren’t any real obstructing hills in that direction for at least 4 miles. Even going north towards Boonton Twp it is almost line of sight staying west of Sheep Hill.

Now going towards Pompton Plains and Riverdale youhave Sheep Hill and the hills in Towaco that block the signal.

And any good RF engineer would use electrical downtilt on the Powder Mill site to help focus coverage in town to minimize co-channel andenhance in building coverage in the town.
Parsippany’s system should have better coverage in town than the County or PSIC systems. Parsippany has four TX/RX sites in town where the County system only has Randolph and Sheep Hill as the two main contributing sites.

PSIC has West Orange and Garrett Mtn as the simulcast site and Randolph single site to cover the town. Ramapo is too far west and Green Pond too far northwest.

700 MHz RF contour does not do well when you are in a shadow of a hill/mountail like where I live. Thereare more “shadows” than UHF. Besides I have the Kinnelon County site which covers into this area well.

I’ll have to take my SDS200 mobile through Parsippany one day.

Has anyone heard anything on the new system?
Yes, today I was inadvertently monitoring only the old system on my SDS100 and wondered why I'd heard nothing. When I enabled the new system (thought I'd set it that way on startup but didn't), there they were - and blasting loud! But then again, I'm in Parsippany so would expect to hear them well.

I had set up the new system in Sentinel last week, and heard nothing, then downloaded the Sentinel update today and dumped my own hand-input system in favor of that from RR and the RR system programming works great. Thanks to those who contributed to putting it together!

I built a small 700 MHz ground plane with about 3 feet of RG-58 cable and now able to receive the Parsippany system. Only thing I have heard so far is a rebroadcast patch of their 800 MHz PD dispatch channel. Coming in on TG1001.

Parsippany Police are now utilizing Police 1 full-time on the new 700 MHz system. The switchover was made yesterday.

Well that is pretty dirty system and are they no longer on the 800 channels? I am in Livingston and I am unable to lock on them from the roof or a supplied back antenna.

800mhz is being patched to 700mhz at this point. All radios have been reprogrammed, primary police channel is now bank A channel 1 on mobiles and walkies.

Anyone know if Fire made the decision to stay with County or come back to the Township yet ?

My understanding is everybody but one company had agree to switch, and the holdout preferred the use of County. Anyone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

I can't get them in West Orange either. It was mentioned in another post that the system was designed to not reach very far outside of the township. Although in another post someone mentioned 100% signal strength by Livingston mall, so I'm guessing you're located more towards the northern end of town.

Yes, I am northern end of town. I will have to put them in the mobile and see if I pick them up as a roam the community.

Just saw an update to the database. Looks like Parsippany is going from UHF to 700 simplex firegrounds. Also noted, "as of 1/4/21 Fire districts 3, 4, 5, and 6; EMS Car 65,66, and Par-Troy as well as Car 69 will all be moving to the new township trunk system.

Fire Districts 1 and 2 will remain dispatched by the county."

Can't even get Fire Departments in the same Township to agree in who dispatches them in Jersey !!!!

The change over is completed as of 10:20am today. I am sure Districts 1 and 2 have their reasons for staying.

Well my discone is on the roof, I am sort of on the hill of my neighborhood. I am going to plug the system into the BCD536 and see what happens. Right now trying to the BCD996p2 and it is not happy. Plus I put it in before I think it may have been fully online, not sure though. Could just be location, it happens.

To bad the signal is terrible and can't get them just a couple towns down Rt 280.

Take the antenna out of your grill. :ROFLMAO: ;)

Friendly joking aside, you are actually in kind of an odd area for reception. Despite the hill, there does seem to be some dead spots around. Your possible electrical interference issue might also have something to do with it.

Im a bit confused...so their old UHF firegrounds are now 700 simplex, but Districts 1 & 2 stayed with County on their UHF trunked system but switched to 700 firegrounds as well ? Or did they keep their UHF for fireground or are they using one of the County UHF firegrounds.
