Partial Shutdown of the Michigan State Police
September 28, 2007
Per Executive Directive 2007-20, the Michigan State Police (MSP) will implement a partial shutdown of operations on October 1, 2007. During the shutdown, the MSP will retain 222 uniform troopers, 15 sergeants, three lieutenants and 27 emergency dispatchers to provide basic law enforcement service on an emergency basis. This represents a 90 percent reduction in MSP staff.
During the shutdown, all MSP work sites will be closed, including posts. MSP specialized services will only be activated if the service is deemed necessary to protect imminent threats to public safety, health and welfare. The following MSP services and activities will cease during the shutdown:
• Forensic science laboratory services
• Commercial vehicle enforcement including weigh stations
• Criminal investigation and drug enforcement operations
• Apprehension of fugitives and parole absconders
• Emergency management and homeland security coordination
• Casino gaming oversight
• Updates to criminal justice information systems
• Tactical, canine, bomb squad, dive and aviation services
• Computer crimes and Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force investigations
• Fingerprint-based background checks for employment and licensing purposes

The ones in RED are SERIOUS SERIOUS issues when closed.
Basically it's a giant F.U. not only to MSP Troopers but also to the citizens of this state. The ones affected most are the ones in areas where there is limited Sheriff Road Patrols.
