What do they mean by Pass Port Trunking??

This system will be upgraded to 100 percent PassPort Trunking by late-2005. All of the LTR talkgroups will be phased out completely.

What organization nearby will be using that system? I'm just curious because like you, I've never seen it or heard of it before.

Actually PassPort Trunking is very common on UHF and is growing rapidly. I know many system providers like the features of this protocol because it allows users to be in range of of different towers, and still be able to communicate with each other. This is much like the MPSCS system but not as dynamic or providing statewide coverage, unless multiple SMR Providers agree to link together; hence, forming a wide area coverage system.

Can any of the newer scanners like the BC796 or the BC296 be able to track the Pass Port or do they not have one able to scan the Pass Port yet??

Sadly, not yet. I hope they will be able to in the future. Until then we have to wait until it's released in a new scanner.
