Tiverton FD is planning to move. They has not officially moved yet since their mobile radios and DVRS units are not installed. Their UHF is patched to RISCON. Smithfield FD is patched to RISCON (as a stop-gap) since they flipped the switch to P25 and realized they put themselves on an island and NOBODY around them could talk to them.

Tiverton PD has been on RISCON for a decade.

Cumberland, Middletown and East Greenwich FD's are waiting on equipment to arrive and Burrillville FD (PD has been on RISCON for a decade also) is in process, waiting on equipment.

When a department switches to RISCON do they have to buy all new radios for all the apparatus and portable radios for all members, if so I'm sure it would be very expensive

I actually have no real idea how the cities/towns come up with the cash to do it. I would think that some of it is funded by the city or town and some by FEMA AFG Grants. See here Assistance to Firefighters Grants for a list of RI awardees.

Back in the 2003-2005 time frame, all fire apparatus, police vehicles and dispatch centers were given 800Mhz radios (portables for vehicles & mobiles for dispatch centers) by the state (Federal grant funded) for "the next big one". This originally was the RITERN network which has evolved onto RISCON.

What is the story with Pawtucket fire? They seem to be on the fence regarding switching to RISCON. One week they are heard on RISCON then the next week they're back to using conventional frequencies What is the problem; are they working out the bugs? Also does anyone besides me have trouble with Barrington police on their conventional frequency I get a very good signal in Riverside but the modulation is very low and muffled Thank you

It seems that Pawtucket needs to get their priorities in order and focus on public safety instead of a ridiculous soccer stadium Ya think

East Greenwich fire should be full time RISCON by the end of the summer however the 800's are already heavily used for communications (non fireground.)
