Joey the issue is the state system is not built robust enough to use a ducky antenna. You need to get a stick outside and likely above your roofline for that.

For what it's worth, you can listen to the StarNet Philly sites here:

It covers all the DOT channels in the 5 county area as well as some PGC and other channels, just no PSP.

you probably know it doesn't show up when "scanned".....must be locked on.......
Yep that's just your bad reception though
you only need one talk group anyway on that system but yes I can see it skipped when you scan. Racing stubby is UHF band so I can see it working on the t-band.

Thanks to all of you - it turns out I was in fat monitoring the STARNET Bucks TGs.....I will assume that since I heard nothing at all it is because I'm out of range - still using indoor stick antenna......

I can confirm that there has been plenty of DOT storm activity in Bucks and Montco yesterday and today on the STARNet system (VHF and UHF.) I listen to MONY02. You must be out of range as previously mentioned if your programming is correct.

As an alternative, the Turnpike has been very active today...155.1300 (PL 77.0).

Yep the link above has been busy today. Joey you can try the turnpike but I'm pretty sure that you are going to be out of range. I live in Bristol next to the turnpike and it is a difficult system for me to pick up now with a ground plane. It used to be on another VHF Channel prior to 2017 and it came in great but when they changed frequencies it got weaker... It is a rebroadcast of the Open Sky system.

Also another good system to listen to during a snowstorm is on the New Jersey interop system the Delaware River Bridge Authority Channel 1 South is always been a good talk group. Toll bridge, Calhoun Street Bridge, Washington Crossing bridge monitors give temperature precipitation and tide reports every hour.

This is the only talk group you need for the toll bridge, Calhoun Street Bridge and the Washington crossing bridge. I use the Bordentown site and I'm thinking you are probably using the west Trenton site or the Bordentown site. You don't need to scroll through all the other sites you can permanently avoid them. Pretty boring but when we had everything else it gave you good coverage. The bridge monitors are unarmed, patrolled by a sergeant in a vehicle and use C12 State House State Police as their backup.

The Buckingham site has pretty good coverage due to its elevation. It is on the same tower as the Bucks County gear on Buckingham Mountain. As Bob said, the plows are as boring as watching the scanner by-pass the now encrypted police frequencies.

When I was running Unitrunker on the system a while back I ran 295 north and didn't pickup Buckingham until just south of the Newtown exit. It may propogate more to the north, but it definitely doesn't to the south. As I said before, I get a better signal from Willow Grove when I'm in Bensalem.

I am in Yardley and still can't get the PennDot - as Dan said it is no doubt because of the outdoor antenna that I do not have in use.....I shall content myself with listening to the Mercer DOT guys grunt......and NJSP calling Duty Tow to upend vehicles on 295 and haul them off.....
