Plows?

Still trying to listen for the plows...

I"m hearing traffic on SHA Cambridge on FiRST but nothing on low band. Highways are active on Calvert TRS. Been scanning the CB channels to see if any of the contractors show up there. I guess it's cellular or bust.

If I was a betting man, they probably don't need to do much communicating this far into the season. Everybody pretty well knows what they're doing and where they're going by now... I have a friend that's a RME and he just checks the cameras to find out the road conditions.

Still, it would be good, IMO, to have communications with these folks since things happen.

I've been listening to the Calvert County highway supervisor on the radio this morning trying to figure out which contractors were supposed to go where and trying to figure out why they haven't been there yet. I guess that's what happens when you outsource!

Sounds like some snow-related traffic is being passed on CMARC Event 1 via a patch.

It sounded to me like it happens with some type of roundup meeting in Annapolis where the contractors report. Once they do, public works reassigns where the government units go.

This is pretty much the same across the county, only I have noticed that the Permits and county inspectors channels are getting used for plow assignments and communications. I don't remember that from past years. Sounds like the inspectors are also some of the plow drivers.

I've heard plows on ch 16AM just chit-chatting here in Germantown.

They do a lot of that because of the number of contractors involved in plowing operations who don't have access to government radio systems.
