OK. It sounds as if the ham repeaters are somehow causing interfernce on the LE repeaters (or vice-versa) on certain towers. It seems to me that if LE was hearing amateur cross-talk then the LE radio techs would have looked into that. It's possible that an investigation revealed that the ham equipment was the cause of the interference and, lacking resources, the hams decided to just cease use of their repeaters. It's likely the hams are guests or renting space on those towers so any cross-talk with the LE freqs is theirs to correct.

You made this so much more simple and understandable haha

This sounds about right. Half of this town is old wives' tales so its hard to get all of the details then make sense when you repeat it.
