When I listen to my scanner and the police are done with a traffic stop, sometimes they let the person go with a warning and they clearly state it is a warning. But other times I hear a 3 letter code come across the scanner when they are finishing up with the traffic stop and I'm betting that means something in relations to a traffic ticket or some kind of ticket.
Like today I heard the police here give "something" to a person for road rage and it was a 3 letter code starting with a "D".
Does anyone have a list of these codes or do you know where I could find them?
I've tried a Google search but always end up with 10 codes and this isn't a ten code.
I don't exactly know what they are called so it's tough to do a search.
I even tried searching for "Police Jargon".
I live in Central Vermont if that helps at all.

Thanks much....

It sounds like maybe a department specific designator. You may have better luck asking your local PD what they mean. I know the local department here has their own 'version' of the 10-codes and 'signals', I figure that 'jargon' is probably the equivalent. Ask them, see what they say.

Here in Oklahoma the local police use common 10 codes. The OHP and OSBI use codes that I'm not familiar with yet.

Dispo codes vary greatly from agency to agency.

Here are the Columbus Ohio Dispo Codes:

Clearance Disposition Codes

Code 1 - Report and/or Citation (1A for alarm notice)
Code 2 - Party Advised or No Report Needed
Code 3 - Arrest Made
Code 4 - Non-Arrest Situation / Errand Completed

Note: Use a “V” following any of the above codes to
indicate videotaping of the incident.

Thanks, I'm glad I read this thread for reference. I'm listening to the LAPD feed but sitting in PA and its kind of helping me decode everything they are talking about. It's a lot different than my area, as one other poster said, all we use is 10 codes. And normally the only two you hear that often is 10-28 (License plate run) or 10-4.

If you're listening to LAPD, you probably want to consult an area guide for LAPD codes as Columbus uses a completely different set of codes, such as below. This is what is interesting about

LAPD Radio Codes from Department Manual Volume - 4 Section 105-120.80

You hearing LAPD from Pennsylvania?

Probably doing live streaming.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that most "codes" you hear (211, 187, etc) are actually California Penal/Vehicle/Health codes. They should be rather easy to find online.

Yeah, I was using this sites live feed. I did check and bookmarked a page that shows all the codes, pretty sure its the same one you posted. Interesting stuff. Within about 2 minutes of reading I was already understanding more than I did before.

This is what is interesting about

I didn't notice my trailing thoughts I was typing out before the editing function went away. I guess that's what I get for typing a response at 3AM. I was gonna talk about how it is interesting that there are so many different codes out there for just about the same stuff, but I'll just stop before I make another mistake!
