Portable Scanner Antenna

I have a Pro-106 Digital Trunking scanner with just the regular rubber duck antenna. I was wondering how much it would help if I was to buy a portable antenna to replace the rubber duck. I have one on my car but Im wondering about one that would just hook to the scanner to carry around. How much would it help with receiving?

Okay, good question. What are you trying to listen to? What frequency ranges? For the 800 mhz frequencies, I would highly recommend buying a 800 mhz antenna from Radioshack. This one is VERY GOOD at picking up 800 mhz frequencies. For the 120/150/300/450 ranges, an amateur radio operator member on here recommended that I get a Diamond RH77CA antenna. It really all depends on what you want to listen to. Radioshack has some pretty good antennas as do many other stores.

I vote for the RS 800 MHz too, I have several of them and they perform very well. The Watson Super Gainer is a good antenna for conventional
systems. The Diamond RH77CA Blue Moon mentions is good also for the conventional systems. I have all three antennas.

Im basically trying to listen to a P25 150 range is the main one im listening to. Its a none trunked system and just a regular conventional P25 digital channel. And i carry my scanner around the house with me but in most spots I cant pick them up well at all. In one room I hear them fine but then the other nothing. I also listen to a 800 range to, but the rubber duck picks them up fine.
