Good afternoon had a question? Is Gastonia area ok/good? I know someone is visiting next week for a few days. I did look up and saw some areas don't have power.

Like most of NC right now, there are many many power outages. (over 1 million right now)
Looking at the outage map 2/3 of Gaston county is in the dark. (I'm personally without power too)
Just me guessing, it will probably be a few days before they get 90% of people back online in Gaston.

@bravo14 Reports of much damage in western NC including people in house floating in rapid water, many counties using the VIPER Statewide Events channels, especially BRAVO 2 (51960) and FOXTROT 3 (51977) which I am monitoring from Raleigh.

Also, crews have asked for a unit to call them on 8TAC92 but that is a National Interoperability frequency, being used locally.

An another interesting take on power outages in NC. Scroll through here at Broadcastify and you will see who has power or backup power and who does not.

As of this post there are 293 feeds for NC. Of those, 87 are marked as offline. Making 29% of all the feeds in NC offline.

On the other hand, offline could also mean downed Internet.

I was on FB and saw a post on a FB Page I belong to and someone posted a site for NC. DriveNC.gov for road closures and some roads are still closed.

I monitored S/W call all day and noticed some counties still could not operate off Viper Net due to outage or radio problems

Many roads closed or destroyed, will take a while to get them passable. NC Natioal Guard helo doing rescue missions on VIPER SW Events Echo 2 this morning. SW events (including but not limited to BRAVO, ECHO, FOXTROT & SIERRA 1-4) channels and NIFOG are the most active

What channels are they using for the Asheville hurricane disaster on Viper? I think I’m hearing some on statewide channel. I’m not sure please let me know.

What anyone hears is highly dependent on the site you are listening to. Not all traffic is going to pass to all sights. I'm sure NIFOG channels are busy in the affected areas but Im too far from the activity to hear anything.

I've monitored Huntersville, Gaston, Charlotte, Anderson, and maybe a couple of others. Currently sitting on Gaston simulcast.

SWCALL is very busy with requests for welfare checks from all over the state and some requests for service and other things

Bravo2 has been busy and a few others. I was driving and couldn't see all the TG IDs so don't want to misstate anything here.

Some of the NCNG channels are active but not sure how related to the SAR in the mountains.

For more info also monitor the 145.19 Mt. Mitchell repeater. There's been a lot of traffic and an unofficial net running there passing good info plus health and welfare traffic.

When I left Gatlinburg Friday Morning at 10:30 THP District 5 and Smokie Mnt National Park P25 channels were very busy. Just a note glad I left when I did I saw water close to getting out over roads.

I'm in Gastonia. We were without utility power for 36hrs at my house. Some areas were hit pretty bad, some never lost power at all. Your friend should be okay to visit by next week. Things are slowly coming back online, and trees are being cleared.
