On Flightradar24 I am not seeing every asset I am hearing on the radio, so not all are squaking an identifier. I have seen Army Chinook and plenty of UH60 and UH72. Lots of private helos. Currently Samaritan's Purse Helo (N399SP) flying what appears to be a search flight all around Watauga. They get close to small bodies of water and along rivers and streams. Probably observing flooded areas.

Governor and other state officials taking air tour this morning of that area, could have been them. Flying out of Asheville.

Playback doesnt show N399SP going to Asheville. That helo seems to be kept at the North Wilkesboro airport. Playback shows it originated from there today and also the last few days from there.

Samaritan's Purse has a huge facility near the airport on 268 East in North Wilkesboro. I am don't what they do there. Last time I drove by it it appeared to me to be on the same property that used to be Lowes.

I don't think I've ever seen this many helos in the air at the same time in this area. One of the Helos is using VIPER ECHO 2. Comms are clearer on my Unication G5, but my TRX-1 is scanning multiple towers, unlike the G5, pulling in more traffic.

52358 should be medical or hospital, I agree with you on the 52671 and 677 TGs as being NC Forest Service. These events bring out a lot of seldomly used TGs and give you a chance to discover new ones.

Interesting things heard on the scanners...Someone this afternoon on EMWBO VIPER TG asked to move to NC EM RRT to discuss something with the Governor's office. It sounded like a planning session for another visit and I thought it was the Governor going back. We now know what it really was...

POTUS said he and Governor Cooper had spoken about his travel plans and revealed that he’d go to North Carolina on Wednesday to “survey the damage … without taking resources and burning resources on the ground.”

“I'm going to North Carolina on Wednesday. It's planned now. We're going to be landing in Raleigh for a meeting with the Emergency Operations Center, and I'll then do an aerial tour,” he said.

VIPER COML talking about the arrival of 100 cache radios, the reliance on VIPER will be crucial until all power is up and the hundreds of support people from around the country can be released.

Also, you might start watching for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to pop up on radio, they are providing emergency power planning and response teams and temporary power to North Carolina.

On VIPER.
Department of Defence
There are a few Army Corp of engineers channels. No idea if they will be used.

I am unsure what relief power they may provide, but they never did before.

Army and Air National Guard has lots of large mobile generator assets that always get deployed during these disasters. Been there and done that. State Emergency Management handles those resources. The generators are actually DOD assets the state is allowed to use. I supported the EOC at the Wilmington Airport during Hurricane Floyd. I still remember the smell of all the drowned livestock. Sounds like this one is a repeat.

Not sure what assets they have out that way but they actually have tractor trailers sized lithium batteries that can truck in for like hospitals to use for a week or so I believe

Based on my experience with extended power outages amid storms, I would expect all those cell sites operating on generators to be in need of fuel soon. That then can bring a new round of personal communications outages if they cannot be reached.
The Verizon site I have dealt with only alarms at 25% fuel remaining with no way to check unless the remote site was visited. We finally got it refueled with less than 5% remaining.

One of the many helicopters at Asheville airport preparing to deliver food to those stranded in western NC operating now as HAIRY02 (FEMA/DVIDS photo). I always like to see an actual photo of the helicopter I'm listening to on the NCNG TGs.
