I’m going to go out on a limb here so please be kind with your responses to this post and I'll just go and put on the fire-retardant. Below you will see data provided to me by a well known RR member in Saskatoon. Thanks'.
.
Site 19 data for TG 217. Not many hits.
<Group id="217" color="00FF00" rank="50" hide="0" lockout="0" first="20211126003459" last="20211229223441" hits="5".

Not the absence of the two RIDs seen in the Regina area.
.
When I monitored PPSTN Site 5, I could see a few coms on TG 217, between the RIDs 2213279 (on another site) and 2213274 (on Site 5). These RIDs were new and this talkgroup’s use unknown to me.
.
On August 11, 2022 at 14:24 the RID 2256343 STAR 9 logged in onto "my site" and called the Aviation Center in Regina, telling them that STAR 9 was touching down here at the hospital.
The following STAR RIDs 2256318 / 2256316 / 2256319 all logged in on "my site" at 14:28.

For the first time ever at 14:44 the RID 2213279 logged in on "my site" on TG 217 and sent 2 data grants, but nothing else followed.
From 14:57 to 15:07 there were lots of coms between STAR 9 and the Regina Aviation Center on the STARS 1 TG, as STAR 9 lifted off from the hospital’s landing pad located just to the east of the building. They were heading for Moosomin.
.
Now for the going out on the limb part of this post.
Has STAR 9 been equipped with the encrypted RCMP radio ID 2213279 utilizing the talkgroup 217?
Can STAR 9 now communicate directly and securely with the RCMP?
A supergroup patch could be used to connect STAR 9 with any of the RCMP's encrypted talkgroups.
For what purpose would this be necessary? Asked the fool.

This radio may only be capable of utilizing that single talkgroup and no others so that RCMP's communications could not be monitored by STARS crews.
Municipal / First Nations Police and city Police have been equipped with RCMP radios to become "Combined" units and it appears that some RCMP combined units are equipped with RPS radios as UHF antennas are seen on some of them.
It is my understanding that only policing services utilize encryption on the PPSTN.
The "Feds" do own the STARS helicopters and we must always be vigilant when it comes to "mission creep".

Is STAR 9 to become another tool in the RCMP’s kit? If so in what ways will it be utilized?
Will it become “THE AIR UNIT”, to be called to assist the ground units? Is it already being used in this way?

I do know that the RCMP has called on STARS to use it's search light to locate a missing person on a Reserve northwest of my community and again to search for a missing person or the body of that person along the river on the northern border of my community. I can recall a couple more instances like this and also that STARS has refused such missions as they were totally committed to other life saving missions.

We, the public donate money to the STARS Foundation to keep this valuable life saving service in operation. Is it to be "skyjacked" at times for purposes other than an air ambulance service?

And yes, the deep state’s encryption algorithm will keep us from ever knowing the answers to many of my questions.

You keep a lookout on PPSTN talkgroup 217 and let us know your findings. Maybe it was just a coincidence that occurred on the mid-afternoon of August 11, 2022 or maybe it wasn't.

Cheers.

First of all, LOL.

I have noticed TG 217 as well with the following ID's using it

2213280
2213276
2213272
2213271
2213268
2213270

I have only heard the TG a handful of times, figured it was a specialty TG but never had enough to go on. Interesting that STARS has been on it. Now I am curious about the external equipment on the chopper.

I know they were involved in search and rescue in Big River last fall and was I curious with the communications at that time and the use of the helicopter as you are. They seemed to have more of an involvement than just an air ambulance.

Interested in monitoring and mapping the system as well, I don't mean to offend.

You have a greater understanding of the system and I bow to what you have collected. so forgive the simple questions.

Just to add to this discussion. I have all my SDRTrunk logs going into a Greylog system so I have been able to parse and retain all of the activity on Site 5 for a rolling 7 day period. I may extend this as I learn more about Greylog.

Searching for TG 217 yielded the following information:

In the past 7 days:
4 Unique RIDs:
2213265 (245 Calls)
2213267 (103 Calls)
2213270 (542 Calls)
2213274 (155 Calls)
There were no additional association with any other TGs during this time period for these RIDs

1089 Calls, all encrypted
Calls began Sept 13 @ 16:45 and ended at 21:00
