• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Looking for some help programming a PR400 to monitor local FD dispatch. I have a general handle on things although there are some options I don’t understand.

I have the correct frequency. I have the correct TPL, and I’m pretty sure I have the correct QC2 tones. I have two radios. I programmed one with and one without the QC2 tones.

However, no matter what I do, both radios activate for other FD calls and FAS calls, all of which are using different activation tones.

So what I’m trying to figure out is what I don’t have configured properly for the QC2 tones. I figured if I used the wrong tones then the radio wouldn’t activate at all but it’s acting like I don’t have QC2 enabled.

Will upload my file later if that’s allowed, or can provide screenshots.

1. Do you have QC2 selected under receive in the channel?
2. If so, set decode to AND criteria instead of OR if all you are trying to do is hear your calls

Attached is the file I'm using to program. Dispatch happens on 158.940000. 141.3 TPL.
I determined the tones to be 204-190.
Included in the zip is the nightly pager test. the FIRST tone is the fire tone, the rest are other fire departments and ems.

1. Yes I do
2. I dont see these options anywhere.

I'd love to learn more about all of the options in the software if there is a manual somewhere as well?

Listened to the test page audio file. Sounds like you are on priority scan and the channel you are recording is a non-priority member. QCII will never work this way as the priority drop outs kill the ability to decode the tones correctly.

Understood. Trying to understand what the different Scan PL Types mean. Wondering if I even need the PL turned on for this channel when I am trying to only hear when there is a QCII tone anyway?

If I leave the scanner on the channel where I'm only looking to hear QCII tones, but have the other channels set to scan, would it work?

Advice?

I did read the help file which was far more informative than i anticipated, but I'm still unclear on things. It'll be trial and error for me I think.

I changed the Scan PL Type to Non-Priority, so the other channels that have DPL codes are still only triggered when a DPL is detected. I left the Dispatch channel as Priority, so (I assume) it'll only trigger when a QCII tone is detected. See screenshots below.
