• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I tried to save my fire department a few bucks in radio programming. I was successful with a couple other portables and the Minitor V's were a breeze. But these Motorola PR400's are over my head. I bought a disk and cable on Ebay and nothing in the software says for PR400 I cant get my laptop to recognize the USB cable that came with the disk, and furthermore the radio it self doesnt even have a CP interface plug to put the cable. I see 2 holes with a dust cover 1 has a set of headphones on it the other hole is labeled with a microphone. I am usually pretty quick with these things. The disk when I load it up has so many files and what not on it i dont know where to start I see Motorola and Kenwood A8 CPS and something called HYT and a mess of Chinese folders. Any advice at this point would be greatly appreciated.

What ebay buyer did you get your software/cable from? A lot of these places have correct software.

The PR400 probable use's Moto software RVN4191 ver05.x.x.x.x

As for the cable, did you get a small driver disk with it? I use a lot of cables from sellers like kawamall and I have never had a problem with them as long as I use the correct software for the radio.

If you did not get a driver, google proflicusb drivers, as 98% of these cables use this driver.

The program port on the radio is the 3.5mm plug on the side.

Not know exectly what programs/files you have on the disk, it would be hard to tell you which one to use, but you should see a file that says CP/PR400 or CPS05.xx.xx.

If you do not have CPS on that disk, them you need to try some place else.

Once you have the correct program, using it is easy.

I did get a small blue disk labeled K/M The buyer was Sun Guangzhang from China. It does have a folder labeled USB But nothing is making sense. Is there any way we can speak verbally?

The only legal way to get the Motorola CPS is to purchase it from Motorola. Any other source is illegal, and discussion of it is contrary to the rules here on RR. But more than that, using software from a source like that is not doing you and your department any favors. You have no way of knowing if the copy you get is hacked or trojaned or worse.

I established a MOL account and purchased a three year subscription for the software on behalf of the Town and the ambulance service. Yeah, it cost several hundred dollars for the subscription, but it's legit all around and fully supported by Motorola. We also purchased the Professional Series software for our CDM1550's & 1250's and HT1250's. We figure we'll save thousands of dollars in programming costs over the life of the subscriptions.

As for the aftermarket USB programming cable, go to prolific's website and download the 2303 chipset drivers. Remove any other USB drivers you may have installed to try to get the cable to work.

Ok thank you I did in fact apply this afternoon for a MOL account for this software By saving money I meant I didn't want to see our Township give 30 dollars a radio to the State radio guy when I can try it myself. I by no means intend to scam steal or in anyway illegalize any activities. And let it be known the software I have on the firehouse laptop now for the Monitor V's came from a Motorola website that I found on this very website

We're can i get cable and software for the pr400 I need for the fire?

Read this "sticky" first: http://forums.radioreference.com/motorola-forum/74748-you-looking-free-programming-software.html

There are dozens of threads here about legitimately purchasing Motorola software from Motorola On Line. The PR400 portable requires Motorola software RVN4191.

I have had great luck purchasing USB cables for the Commercial Series portables (CP200, PR400, CP150) from reputable sellers on Ebay by shopping the seller first and then the item.

And really give some thought to paying the extra money to buy Motorola cables.
It just goes so much easier. No one with genuine Moto software and genuine Moto cables is posting here that they just can't seem to read their radio.
