Well I think I will be returning my 106. I purchased it about 2-3 weeks ago and don't notice the difference in quality between my 96 and 106.

Really? I sold my Pro-96 and purchased the 106 for the added features. What is "quality" exactly? Sensitivity? Sound quality? The feel of the plastic case?

Not a lot of P-25 digital systems in your area? If there were, you would hear a tremendous difference between the two. The advantage of the 106 over the 96 is the amount of memory(you have 1800 vs. only 500 per V-Folder), more system types with the 106, better audio on digital systems, shared memory on different Scan Lists(20 vs. 10), scanner control from the programming software. I am only beginning to list the differences. I have had mine for 9 months and am still experimenting with all the features on this scanner! Keep it for a while, post on the New Jersey forum to get additional help from those in your metro area on what to monitor. I think that you will be amazed as to what you can do with the radio:)

I am in Burlington Co so if anyone would like to give me a little training on this unit I would appreciate it. The thing that stumps me is how poor the NJSP sound on this radio.

Theres the database entry for the state DTRS, I only see Kit Carson county PD. You may want to program the sheriff in too so you can see the difference between analog and digital(there is a HUGE difference, after listening to a digital system most of the year ive owned my 106, i would almost prefer to not listen to the scanner than listen to an analog channel.lol) Do you know how to program a digital system? If not, PM me and i will assist you. Hope that helps, and if im wrong about anything, let me know people who know more than me(not hard, lol).

I was going to buy a 396xt but Manny talked me into at least trying the 106. Needless to say I still have it so I thought it was worth it for me and with the RS 800mhz antena on it the thing is awesome

I agree Iam not happy at all with the 106 I feel that it is only as good as my 96.Reception of the macomb co mpscs simulicast ( in my area ) is almost impossible no matter the settings or moving it around or on a outside antenna. Now iam not going to return it or sell it but iam not impressed at all ...

Different strokes for different folks!

The 106 is not for everyone!
As Joe pointed out, he was all set to go the Uniden way until I showed him the 106. Now he is hooked. Joe and I are very technical people. Some people just dont get the learning curve that these new radios come with. It's a lot to learn but once you get it, if you get it, you wonder how you ever did without it. Even then, to some people, it is just not going to be their thing. So all we can do is coach away but in the end, they may just not be happy. The title says it all. I love my Pro-106 and cant wait for RS to put them on sale again! Can you say "Friends and Family coupon"????LOL

I like my 106 so much that when someone stole it out of my police car, ripped it in half and threw it down, I went back and bought another one......

So my 106 is now worth $900.

Sounds like you are never going to take the time to learn how good it is. I say "dump the thing"!

Dump it really cheap, and sell it to me. :D
