I have acquired a PRO-164 scanner. Does anybody know how to program this thing? I live up in the Seattle area so I need to be able to program the trunked channels. Having a little difficulty figuring out this scanner.

Thanks,
A.

First thing you should do is download the Manual.
Here are the steps for the Portland system. Just put in the correct control channels for the system you want.

The Pro-164 needs only the four control channels for each system to hear the entire system. Use one bank for each system.

First bank will be for the PORTLAND system.
(Each bank has 5 sub-banks, each holding 30 Talk Group IDs.).
The first step is to enter the control channel freqs.
1. Press PGM -> TRUNK -> FUNC, then use the arrows to select a bank.
2. Press MODE, select MOT.
3. Press PGM, select channel number. (use arrows to change channels).
4. Enter the first freq. 858.7125 -> ENT
5. Press MODE until MOT appears -> ENT (MOT will apply to next 3 freqs.).
6. Enter next freq. 858.7375 -> ENT.
7. Enter next freq. 859.2625 -> ENT.
8. Enter the last freq. 859.4625 -> ENT.
9. Press SCAN.
Now it will start "trunking".
There are two trunking modes, OPEN and CLOSED.
In OPEN mode you will hear ALL active Talk Groups.
In CLOSED mode you will hear only the TGs you enter into the sub-banks.

To program the sub-banks.
1. MAN -> PGM -> TRUNK.
2. FUNC - arrow to select bank.
3. Press MODE to select MOT.
4. Press TRUNK to select sub-bank.
5. Enter a Talk Group ID (2 to 5 numbers) -> ENT.
6. Enter then next ID -> ENT.
7. When all IDs have been entered, press SCAN.

I will have to give it a try. Right now I have just been turning it on and letting it scan for any radio traffic that is in the area without programming anything. Gets kind of annoying. I hear the road crews, school buses and random other crap.
If I try and program the main channel and then all the trunked or Talk Groups and I some how mess it up is there a way to do "factory reset" so I can start all over?
Now I just need to find the frequencies for the South King county area and Pierce County.

Thanks for the tips. I will have to see if I can give it a try. Currently I have just been letting the scanner do a free scan and pick up whatever radio traffic is in the area. Kinda sucks because I get the road crews, school buses and some other random stuff. Plus if I hear something I want to listen to I end up only getting bits and pieces of the call.
Is there a way to factory reset these. In case I screw it up trying to program it, it would be good to at least get it back to be able to scan.
Now it's time to go look for the frequencies for South King County area, and Pierce County. Maybe the airports too. That might be interesting to listen to.
