I could really use some help.. I bought a radio shack pro-18 off this forum and received it today, I'm having a problem figuring it out.. when I go to do anything, it shows database files not found on SD card, please reinstall SEL=Continue..when I select that choice, it goes back to main menu.. I'm new to this , I thought you could just enter zip code on this scanner.. do I have to download it or something ? It's like the database was deleted or something like that..any help is appreciated ..Thanks Rick

Looks like you need to reinstall the database.

Does the radio have the factory upgrade? If not, that should be your first step. I have 2 of that series, and both had noticeable improvements after the upgrade. Depending on your area, you may even find simulcast better than expected with that model. The upgrade will require you to use EZ Scan from Whistler, which has been improved from the original RS version.

You can reformat and upgrade much faster if you use a SD adapter to USB port. Leaving the card in the radio and connecting to the radio USB is much slower.
