Pro 668 Issues

I am unable to receive any P25 traffic on my new Pro 668. I've done all I can think of to fix the problem, but nothing has worked. Any help is appreciated!

I do not have the Pro-668 and I was hoping someone who did would answer, but it would appear that there are not too many of these units floating around Colorado.

If you are trying to use the software and importing from the library, it has been known to import each and every single site for a system. This means that it will try to scan all the primary and alternate control channels for all the sites of that system, even if they are across the state. You may want to enable some of the advanced menu options and manually deleting sites that you know you will never be in range of.

Are you able to hear non-P25 traffic like weather or conventional systems?

Yes, I can hear EDACS and conventional systems, I just can't hear P25. I've already narrowed down the sites to ones around me and the control channels down to 1 per site.

Unfortunately that is about the limit of my knowledge of the newer units. The only other input I really have are things like whether or not your talk groups are assigned to scan lists and all that, but I imagine that it shouldn't be a problem seeing you have EDACS working.

Do you ever see the little trunking T when it tried to scan the P25 systems?

Are you able to program the P25 stuff as conventional frequencies and successfully hear the traffic?

Are you able to copy P25 traffic when doing other types of imports, such as by ZIP code?

If you would like, perhaps you can attach the saved archive of your current programming. Maybe a second set of eyes may notice something.

You say new PRO668 is this new from Radio Shack or from Ebay. This could be as simple as making a new SD card and replacing the SD. I have had a PRO18 and PRO668 out of the blue stop receiving P25 Analog Trunking Ect replacing the card fixed it.

I've gotten Phase I systems to work but I still can't get Phase II (Aurora Phase II to be specific).

Aurora switched comms from EDACS to Phase II encrypted it seems since Sunday night it looks like according to what I've gathered from this thread:

Yes, I'm aware of that. The issue isn't that I can't hear PD. The issue is the scanner is acting like the system isn't even programmed in. When I "hold" on a Phase II TG, the "T" icon and the RSSI bars just flash. Nothing is actually decoded. And when I'm in scan mode, it completely ignores the system.

Yeah I think you're right, I assumed encryption the scanner would just skip not being able to decode it, but I *do* receive aurora transmissions, they just sound like gobbly gook. I'm using a uniden homepatrol-2 tho but I would expect similar behavior on yours.

some thoughts on this.

Is the 668 updated to the latest firmware through the radioshack 668 specific ezscan software.

Since the new system is a multi-site simulcast system the usual unfortunate pitfalls of CC and voice decode issues creeps in which usually shows up in what you described on your display in TG hold mode.

What I have found that helps is to turn the squelch to full open (counter clockwise) while in scan that may help in some cases.

Since you list both Aurora and Broomfield as your location which location are you at in attempting to track this system.

I'm trying to track this system in aurora, however this same issue is occurring with westys system too.. I will try the squelch settings.

As far as the firmware, I can't get my computer to recognize the scanner and update the firmware.

Same here, With the USB cable setup correctly, and ,and following all the instructions - It does not recognize that the scanner is connected. I think I will swap out the SD card - for starters.

Try DAC at 0 or +1, then try DSP at 72, and Site threshold at 10-95. I'm not sure what the previous post to mine means, but if it is driver issue check out the first STICKY thread in the Whistler Thread.
